Hi Kayla, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think of the word “risk” I think of the moments in my life where if I didn’t take that next step that terrified or challenged me in my career I wouldn’t be where I am today. Moving forward in your career and business is taking the necessary risks that push your comfort zone. I think 2020 and still today in 2022 business owners are still uncomfortable, but the trick in managing risk is never letting your fear outweigh your faith, especially for something you believe in. With my program I like to help my partners pursue their business goals with Edison Mall by taking the necessary risks that benefit the business and the growth of the center. As a result, we have signed longer term deals with all existing and new tenants to partner with us and our vision at Edison Mall. Risk in business takes grit and passion and I could not be prouder of the business owners in our program coming into 2023.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My story starts as a young woman from Wasilla, Alaska who decided to come stateside and pursue my nursing degree in Pueblo, CO. I grew up around very strong women in their fields of work and aspired to do the same. After a semester of study, it became clear that nursing wasn’t going to ignite my passion. So, I went looking for something different and got an interview with Centennial Real-estate. I worked with this company for 3 years and came across an opportunity that changed my life and my location. Washington Prime Group was hiring for a local Specialty Leasing Manager for Edison Mall and what a blessing it was because this was the next layer of how I will help someone next. As Specialty Leasing Manager it’s my job to connect with local businesses and put them in front of the millions of visitors we have each year at the mall, that could mean an advertising banner, a pop-up event, a hallway kiosk to sell product or even a short-term store location. My program focuses on the business and the owner and how we can assist in creating stepping stones to their success. Not only does this position challenge me daily but it is the most rewarding feeling at the end of the day knowing that your team helped someone local grow and succeed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I today without the support of my family, my tenants trust, and the support of my wonderful company and leadership through Washington Prime Group. I could not ask for a better team.
