We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Yanowitch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, is there something you believe many others might not?
Proper nutrition equates to a dull, boring, and miserable life. I can’t tell you the times eyes have rolled when I talk about heathy, nutrition-packed dishes. There are numerous ways to vary your plate, cook your foods and spice them up to make your lips smile and your belly dance.

Speaking of conventional advice, I also believe a healthy diet exists on what we have said throughout time, natural food in moderation with a bigger focus on vegetables and less emphasis on sugars. Nothing nouveau, but it works.

What should our readers know about your business?
What is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?

In my line of work, relatability is important as is trust. Most of my work involves working one on one with clients in a private studio. They can privately express real concerns they have with their body image, obstacles to achieving their goals and/or pain- both physically and mentally without being judged or overheard by others. These challenges have previously hindered their success and with the trust they have in me, we can punch through those walls and get to the other side successfully.

My mother was overweight her entire life and struggled with the stigma of being fat as well as the challenges to drop weight. I worked professionally as a fashion and runway model and witnessed the other end of the spectrum. I can often relate to my clients and their battles regarding weight, body image, etc. In addition, I am a competitive athlete and know what it takes to have power, strength, and mobility. I also know the importance of injury prevention and rehabilitation.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m going to shoutout to a few books that have either sparked my passion or served as reference books to me.

It all started with my 10th grade Anatomy textbook. I know it is scholastic and may sound pathetic, but I was dumbfounded learning about all the autonomic processes constantly working within our bodies. Things that we take for granted. Things that should work in perfect harmony. Our bodies are miraculous machines if we treat them correctly.

I grew up avoiding fruits and vegetables, fish and anything that resembled nutritious food. Also in 10th grade, I found my father’s book, (italicized) Prescription for Nutritional Healing. This book taught me about the medicinal benefits of nutrients in our food, I slowly started trading in my junk food for REAL food.

Fast forward to my adult life and two books I still reference are, (italicized)Muscle Testing and Function, and (italicized) Becoming a Supple Leopard. The first book is a great reference for Corrective Exercise, muscular imbalances and treatment protocols. (Italicized) Becoming a Supple Leopard is a guide for “Resolving Pain, Preventing Injury, and Optimizing Athletic Performance.”
