We had the good fortune of connecting with Donné Haynes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donné, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, I’m in love with Art, and creating, it’s my way of expressing raw emotions, social issues etc. My business was born out of the process of me creating, people became interested in my art and wanted it in their homes/businesses within my homeland Barbados. My business is something I really love, made sure I put time and effort in the process of each piece, so people could feel the same connection I feel with my personal work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m very much so expressive and always evolving, so the work does the same. Be it, to speak on socials issues, identity, culture, emotions, so it’s a beautiful thing to see the work evolve with the themes. The materials I use in the work also have ties with the themes I use. For example, if I’m referring to stereotypes and it being passed on and embraced, you will see alot of prints and the Lino block (the source) itself in the work. I’m excited about the next journey, the next series that I’m currently working on. Throughout this journey of being an Artist in the Caribbean, I had to learn to not go to hard on myself but just tell my story, let the work speak, and surround yourself with positive people who want the same thing as you, that takes you a long way

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Will like to give credit to my homeland, Barbados, my work is heavily influenced by Caribbean culture and aspects of identity.
