We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Ferrer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve always considered myself to be a risk taker, both in business and in my personal life from a young age.

Taking risks and trusting that it will work out for the best, has propelled me to take major steps in my career. Ive been in the fashion design, and digital marketing industry for the past 15 years. Having the confidence to launch a womens loungewear e-commerce business during the pandemic, lead to the purchase of our first home. From there, we have purchased 5 other homes and have a total of 8 short term rental properties in the South Florida area. I’ve been able to combine my love of design, with buying and designing realestate, it’s truly been the best of both worlds. A world I would have never known if I would have never stepped into an uncomfortable, uncharted territory of starting my own business.

Taking risks stems from having a strong belief in yourself and your ideas. In order to have the confidence to take risks, you have to look within, take time to work on yourself, read books that teach you what you want to learn, and have that inner fire to be better than you were yesterday.

Risk isn’t the end game, but just a stepping stone that is necessary to walk through to get you to your dream case scenario.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was born into a creative family. My mom, Agnes Manganelli is an unbelievable portrait artist, and I would always watch her draw. She taught me how to see the world differently. She showed me that I could be anything I wanted to be, and was always there to support my out-of-the-box, crazy concepts. I went to a performing arts high school which is where I identified as a “Nerdy, fashionable, art girl”. I always felt different, and knew I was on a special path. After high school I went on to work for Carolina Herrera, and then soon after became a Lead Jewlery Designer, where I would sketch annual collections, research inspiration, manage production, and delegate designs to a team of CAD designers to bring those concepts to life, My work was featured on the front cover of Vogue Magazine. It was an exciting time for a young, 22 year old.

After 5 years, I pivoted into the world of Digital Marketing which is where I went on to have my own consulting company, and helped numerous businesses with their online presence. I also did fashion styling for fun, and my work was published in many south Florida magazine articles. It was a fun time.

Then, I launched my womens loungewear e-commerce brand, @lovebomshel during the pandemic, and it exploded! It was featured in Nylon magazine and on celebrity Maya Rudolf. It allowed my husband and I to purchase our first home, and move out of my husbands moms house. Little did we know that first home, would lead us down the path of investing into realestate, owning 8 properties, designing them, and teaching others how to do the same. It’s been an exhilarating adventure.

The one thing I have learned about myself through this journey, is that anything I dabble in, I do it with 100% effort, passion, and dedication. I master a craft, and then move on to the next. I think life would be boring if I stuck with one industry for the rest of my life. I have been able to use each skill set from each season of life, and use it to grow our little empire.

We have big plans. Those include becoming financially free, and investing back into our community to help others achieve the same!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a week to show my bestie around Palm Beach, like a local, I would start by taking her thrift shopping at a few of my favorite spots! There’s a few gems to choose from, 1. World Thrift, 2. City Girl Consignment, and 3. The Church Mouse.

Then, we’d go for Pizza at Pizza Al Fresco on Worth Avenue, because as much as we love a good deal, there’s always time to be a fashionably, extra.

Afterwards, we’d explore the Island by Bike. Biking gets you into the most magical streets filled with Spanish style architecture and hidden villas.

Then, take the high speed, luxurious train called the: BrightLine down to Miami to explore for the day, before heading back up to hang by the pool at our Airbnbs: @casa.de.Havana and @hausofpina

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am at today without my incredibly smart and husband, Matthew Ferrer. We both were raised with humble beginnings from amazing families, and have built our little empire of 8 short term rentals together in just 3 years with hard work, and investing in ourselves by reading books, which has propelled us to the next level.

We have big goals together for our future, and I am thankful to have such a support system in him, our mentors, families, and friends.

“The Bigger Pockets Podcast” and the “Rich Dad Poor Dad” book have been two recourses that have been integral in our growth. By reading and learning these fundamental strategies together, I believe it has not only strengthened our marriage, but allowed us to align our habits, goals, mindsets, and sacrifices so that we can achieve our common goal: Financial freedom, for us and our future kids.
