We had the good fortune of connecting with Arlana Franklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arlana, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Timeless Skincareology was helping people that looked like me who suffered from the same conditions as me. I suffer from a condition called Alopecia.
With having alopecia, I use to get back lash from people, specifically my culture because I didn’t look like what the world portrayed. People use to say things like “Are you a man?” or even talk about how “Black Women” should be ashamed for cutting their hair.
It really hit home when it came from my African American sisters and brothers. Social media can be cruel when you don’t look like what’s normalized. I wanted to show my African American women, men, and children that you too can look beautiful in your own skin. God made us unique in our own way so that we could stand out.
From this, I created Timeless Skincareology. We are a natural skin and body care brand that caters to all skin types, skin allergies, and skin diseases caused by Alopecia, Lupus, and Cancer just to name a few.
I wanted people to be able to feel as good on the outside, as they did on the inside.
What should our readers know about your business?
Timeless Skincareology stands apart from others because of who we are and who we cater to. We aren’t your average skincare company that just sells a face wash for everyone. We have built a family that goes beyond the surface to ensure we help you with your needs. We are an experience.
I was able to get to where I am today by being consistent and being dedicated to this brand. Was it easy? Absolutely not. We are talking countless hours of going live, teaching classes, going to school myself, while getting to know my audience and dealing with a sick child. In business, you have to know your audience and find ways to set yourself apart.
This is my second time starting my business. In March of 2021, I decided to put my trust in a vendor to brand my company. Long story short, they tried to SCAM ME! I really wanted to give up because, I put my all into the recipe that I trusted this company with. With the help of a good friend, I went back to the drawing board and decided I would do everything myself.
As I started creating a new plan, God assured me that this was the right time. Everything that I prayed for literally fell in my lap! September 2021 we relaunched. No promotion, No PR, or anything. We SOLD OUT in 15 minutes! Since then, I have consistently sold out for 12 consecutive months. As of today, I run a successful two time six figure business.
Along the way, I have learned to always have a back up plan and do your research. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re struggling, let people help you. You don’t have to do everything by yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friends were visiting the city, I would take them to XO Lounge. We love a good place to take photos and the aesthetic there is to tier. I would then take them to Stir for drinks and good vibes. For Sunday Funday, we would visit Deep Ellum for some fun in the city while exploring downtown. For a bit of adventure, we would visit the Bishop Arts District while having lunch at Paradiso.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to thank my Mom and Dad for instilling core values in my life. When I first brought them my vision, they helped me to put it into motion and have been there with me every step of the way. From business models, to business plans, to production, they are my backbone.
Second, I would like to give a shout-out to two friends that turned into sisters, Lae and Patrice. Without them by my side, continuously pushing me, praying for me, keeping me organized while helping me manage all of my platforms across the board, I have no clue where I would be. Just know that it takes a Village to help you grow.
I would also like to shout-out Dr. Jacqueline Triche aka Dr Jay. Thank you for believing in me. I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor.
Thirdly, I would like to thank my Glam Fam Hive supporter group. From our Skincare Tuesdays to our weekly classes, they have been there to support. The Hive trusted me to help with their skin and body care problems. I dedicated countless hours to provide them with a solution and I delivered.
Again thank you to everyone that supported on this journey. I am forever grateful.
