Meet T.Cooke | Hip-Hop Artist & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with T.Cooke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi T.Cooke, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Being an artist/creative is the only thing that makes me feel completely fulfilled as a person, If I can’t get my vision executed properly to the world, I feel like I am suffocating or drowning. Being an artist gives me life, I don’t know how it feels to live in a world where I don’t contribute something artistically. People always know, when T.Cooke has been quiet for too long, he is definitely cooking up something behind the scenes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets my art apart from others is my passion for visuals. I place great importance on aesthetics and how they tell my story. After releasing my first music video, I realized that becoming a visual artist was crucial for my success. With my background in film, I bring a unique perspective and approach that sets me apart from other artists, and I believe this often works in my favor.
I am most proud of my latest album, “Catch Me While I Care,” that was recently released on May 5, 2023. This album was a labor of love, and it took a lot of hard work to write, record, and collaborate with the artists I wanted to work with. Despite the challenges I faced during the creative process, I am thrilled with how it turned out, and the feedback has been really good so far.
Throughout my journey, I have learned an important lesson: never compromise on your vision. Even if you have to fight tooth and nail to ensure that it is properly executed, don’t settle. It’s essential to not leave your artistic expression in someone else’s hands. Sometimes, you need to take charge and make things happen yourself. This way, whether it succeeds or fails, you won’t have anyone else to blame but yourself.
I want the world to know that no matter how much success or attention I receive, I will always be proud to say that I am a black man from Newport News, Virginia. I will never forget my roots or be ashamed to let people know where it all started: the 757. Even when it’s not popular or trendy to do so, I will continue to shout it from the mountaintops at every opportunity. It’s important to me that people know where I came from and that I represent my community with pride.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re looking for some great food, I highly recommend checking out Orion’s Roof or Steak & Tonic. Both spots offer delicious eats and a great atmosphere.
If you’re looking for a place to hang out, Granby Street or the Virginia Beach Oceanfront are great spots to check out. Both areas offer plenty of options for entertainment, shopping, and dining.
And if you’re looking for a good time, be sure to hit up any event where Izzy the DJ is spinning or any party hosted by Big Will. These guys know how to throw a party and keep the energy at a high level.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my amazing family: my mother, father, and younger brother. They have been my unwavering support system throughout the years. Whether it’s pursuing my Master’s degree, music, or films, they have always been in my corner, and I do not take them for granted. I am grateful for their love and encouragement, which has helped me achieve my goals.
I would also like to give a shoutout to my label, “SB, The Family Company.” These guys have shown an unparalleled amount of loyalty and support. I am lucky to have such an incredible team who believe in me and my vision. Thank y’all for always being there for me and helping me to chase my dreams.
