We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Honestly, when one door closes, like anyone I feel like giving up, but I’ve always had a drive to keep thriving because I have nothing to look back for..

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes our tiki huts different than other structures? Our tikis are built different to say the least. First of all , they are built to last and have even weathered storms as big and as strong as hurricane Andrew in 1992, a category 5 hurricane, and our structures still stand. Another reason to separate us from any other company is that we cut our product EVERY crescent moon. Why? Because water rises at that time and that is the best time to cut.

To get where I’m at today I really had to believe in myself when no one did. It was hard, I learned a lot along the way. A lot of your friends won’t support your journey but just stay solid and believe in yourself. No matter how much the blood, sweat, and tears I shed, no one believed in me. But I pulled through.

If I didn’t believe in MYSELF,
I wouldn’t had made it. And I still haven’t, because nothing really stops until you, yourself feel satisfied… and I’m not satisfied.

I want the world to know that these structures that I build are for residential and even commercial but are built with decades of experience. We started the tiki hut business in South Florida. Every one else followed suit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is a number of places I can invite my friends to. First place I would take them to is Gilbert’s Resort. We built a pretty big tiki hut there. Everything from the floor to the tiki bar, to the big tiki hut, WE BUILT IT. They offer food, water sports and more.

Honestly I would take my friend(s) to more than just the places I built tikis for because I have build many tiki huts in south Florida and also Florida has way more things to offer that you can do in only a week’s worth. I do have recommendations like South Beach, if you’re into that. Sorry, (lol) I live here in Miami so it’s not a big deal to me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Juan Lara is my dad, I owe everything I know to him. His dad, my grandfather along with his great grandfather started building tiki huts way long before we made it to where we are now. Before nails were invented, my great grandfather used to use string to attach the leaves to the structures.
