We had the good fortune of connecting with Dayne Di Guglielmo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dayne, what do you attribute your success to?
Every person looks at success differently, the one thing we all have in common is how we get there.  Success, in my experience, has been a combination of two things; an idea and hard work. First it needs to be imagined, then it needs to be built.

As a teacher of the martial arts, specifically kung fu, the topic of hard work comes up often. The words “kung fu” literally translate to, “great skill achieved by a person over a long period of hard work.” In martial arts, this is developed through vigorous exercises, meditations and conditioning drills. Once a degree of excellence is acquired it may be said that a person has “good kung fu.”

With over 30 years of martial arts experience, I share these techniques as martial applications with my students but I encourage each of them down their own path, working hard in every aspect of their lives. Finding a path is easy but seeing it through each day is the journey. Many begin, only a few will reach the destination.

Our school is conveniently located at the Pompano Citi Centre Mall near Light House Point in Pompano Beach.  We are dedicated to preserving the timeless art of traditional kung fu and tai chi. The kung fu aspect of our program is focused mostly on practical self defense techniques and applications. While the tai chi program is focused on health and wellness. We serve as an empowering platform for individuals to discover their potential and become the best versions of themselves. Through rigorous training, kung fu practice instills self-confidence, discipline and a strong work ethic that extends beyond the practice room.

More about our arts, Hakka Kung Fu is renowned for its emphasis on close-quarters combat, utilizing a tall stance that provides practitioners with enhanced stability and control. Central to the Hakka kung fu strategy is the technique of simultaneous grab and striking, with a focus on targeting vital areas to maximize the impact of each technique. These styles excel in neutralizing enemy movements, redirecting energy, and employing an array of techniques such as locks, throws, punches, and kicks. The styles we focus on specifically are Lung Ying Southern Dragon Boxing, Bak Mei White Eyebrow Kung fu, and Wing Chun Kuen Everlasting Spring Fist.

The mysterious art of Tai Chi is characterized by its fluid movements and renowned health benefits.  While Tai Chi was initially conceived as a martial art, it has over time been praised for its healing potential as it improves circulation and promotes longevity for aging populations.  As a martial art it explores the limits of yin and yang in the techniques of application. As a healing art it harmonizes internal energies and stimulates natural healing processes.

When the monks developed these arts, they had longevity in mind.  As you age, if your practice is correct it will always improve your quality of life.  Both kung fu and tai chi can be practiced for life, as the practitioner grows, so does their practice.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve lived in South Florida for over 10 years and have really grown to appreciate the area as well as the people who live here. One thing is for sure about this area, there is always something to do. Deerfield beach is really nice and has some great restaurants close by. One of my favorite spots to go is near the intercoastal, Two George’s at the Cove. You have to try the Mahi sandwich! Or another local legend, Kosta’s Greek Pizzeria (it’s like a real life “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”) – very traditional and run by a family of first generation immigrants from Greece.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In martial arts, legacy is of utmost importance. Our arts were developed and refined over many generations dating back to the 1500s. My parents and my masters deserve most of the credit as it was their patience and dedication that helped get me where I am today.  I’d also like to recognize my students for supporting me in teaching publically and continuing our legacy by teaching the next generation.
