We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristian Garcia Director de Monster Design and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristian Garcia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I come from a small family that was supported by my mother’s work, and I always saw her strength in creating her own business, I took her example and since I graduated as a graphic designer, I decided to have my personal design firm. For this reason, from a very young age I did painting, graffiti art competitions and even sold drawings to my classmates in elementary school to have my own business or graphic design workshop in the future.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I grew up in a time where illustration and POP culture was very strong, since it was an explosion of changes in advertising and graphic design, I always liked drawing, as a self-taught artist, and with the support of courses that my mother developed a style of drawing that I liked very much; For this reason, when I arrived at the university, my degree became easy for me since I learned to channel my ideas in an effective way thanks to the fact that I drew, and with the feedback from the entire culture of animated series, movies, and commercials of the 80s and 90s, they sowed the path of my profession, always adapting to new techniques and design trends, going from artistic illustration to digital illustration, maintaining my style of drawing and design at all times, without neglecting the styles of the market.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live on the Isla de Margarita, a paradise in the Caribbean Sea, we really like the beach, its typical food, and landscapes, as well as water sports such as surfing, bodiboarding, beach volleyball among others, or simply enjoying the beach with good music, drinks and a good barbecue or boiled fish. We do not go to shopping centers if it is not something specific or necessary, if I had a visiting friend, I would show him all the beautiful parts of the island, its customs, and we would share something more personal with my friends from the island. On one occasion or another I would take him to try folkloric gastronomy such as fried fish, boiled fish, seafood cocktails, and the delicious empanadas and cachapa with cheese!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I thank my mother for giving me sustenance, education and good moral and ethical examples, I thank my wife and family for their support, and all those friends who at some point supported me in my ideas
