There’s a ton of research around how setting habits can help us conserve energy because it reduces the number of decisions we have to make in a day. However, not all habits are created equal and so we’ve asked our community to tell us about the habits they have been most effective for them.
Korian Hannah | CEO, Musician, Photographer, Videographer
Over the years some habits that I have built up to become successful are having time management skills, showing up for rehearsals and gigs which includes giving myself time to set up or to find parking when it is not prioritized for the band. Being prepared in advance also helps with time management. I am constantly thinking of ways to better myself, therefore on a daily basis I am researching, watching youtube videos, or talking to a mentor about ways to better my craft is a habit that I found to enjoy. A very important one is, not overplaying my part. A lot of times musicians have a tendency to play to much when its not their time to shine, so practicing self-control while playing has become intentional and important also while remembering to compliment fellow musicians on the stage. Karette Trottman | Business Owner
Prioritising my physical, mental, and emotional well-being is essential for optimal performance both as a business owner as well as in my personal life. Some of the ways I prioritise my health and wellbeing includes: – Getting at least 6-7 hours of sleep – Going to the gym 2-3 times a week – Try and maintain a balanced diet, eating plenty of fibre, fat, and protein – Spending quality time with my loved ones – Signing off work at 4pm Now, I must admit, I am by far, not perfect at implementing the above practices, however, those are habits I continue to nurture as I get to experience the benefits of doing so. Discipline: The discipline to overcome a period of inner-city thuggery that resulted in being expelled from one high school for an act of vandalism ( witness not the perpetrator). The experience resulted in months of sitting a home doing nothing followed by a concentrated set of summer classes which eventually supported a foundation for graduation from another high school the same year I was set to initially graduate. Adam M. Thompson | The American Artist aka AbstractMiami.
Trusting myself is easily the most important factor in my successes thus far. When it comes to art, I say take pretty much any advice with a grain of salt. Almost no artists are actually successful and what worked for one artist rarely applies to another. The modern art world is filled with pitfalls that are easily avoided if you listen to your heart and trust your eyes. It goes without saying it takes hard work, but it also requires listening to what’s going on around you. Ignoring popular trends and focusing on my own style has been crucial. I’ve put a lot of effort into figuring out where I’m wanted and focusing my talents there — failing to do so is a mistake I see most rookie artists making. Read more>>
ISMAEL TRIVINO | Journalist, Producer, Author & Triathlete
“Several habits have played a crucial role in my journey to success. First and foremost, maintaining a disciplined schedule by waking up early every day has been a game-changer. I adhere to a routine of rising at 3 am on weekdays and 6 am on weekends. This early start allows me to kickstart my day with a clear mind and ample time for focused, uninterrupted work. Consistent engagement in sports has also been instrumental in my process. I am an avid triathlete, consistently training for IronMan races. This commitment to physical activity not only keeps me fit but also instills discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic. The challenges of triathlon training mirror the challenges in other aspects of life, teaching me valuable lessons about perseverance and goal-setting. Read more>>
