We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina Curry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katrina, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My business helps the community and the world by giving the gift of confidence. I happen to be in an amazing profession, where I’m called to help people with their outward appearance. The saying goes when you look good you feel good. My business helps individual understand who they are, and how they were created to be. I provide a peaceful environment, where people thrive. They talk to me, they open up to me and they feel and look 100 times better when they leave. The client/stylist relationship is a beautiful bond. And I’m proud to help change lives, one style at a time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a professional Hairstylist! I’m thankful for Over 15 amazing years of changing lives one hair style at a time. I specialize in Natural hair and I have Mastered Locs for all textures. But more than that, I’ve mastered the art of encouraging people and making them feel better about themselves. That’s what sets me apart. It’s more than just a trip to the salon. It’s being able to not only help transform their outward appearance, but to assist in helping them heal, build confidence and experience love in a peaceful environment. I know (all too well) what it’s like to be insecure, depressed anxious and lacking confidence. I thank God for growth.

I can remember being a brand new stylist, in a brand new state, working in my first salon, fresh out of hair school. I didn’t have any clients and I would come and sit and talk with my coworkers, learn what I could and assist them with their clients. I stayed consistent and showed up whether I had 0 clients or 7. I went from assisting my co workers to being fully booked with a waiting list dated out an entire year. People literally tried to bribe me to move up on the list lol. This wasn’t an over night process. It had its challenges. I battled with if was good enough, overthinking and comparing myself to others. I learned to be consistent, give good quality, and master key techniques. Doing so, my confidence increased and the only person I was working to be better than was the person I was the day before. I’ve learned that I am here for a purpose and what God put inside of me is for a special group of people. I have to push past any fear to become who I was created to be. Because I’m someone’s answered prayer, I’m someone’s inspiration. I want people to look at my story, my life, my career…. And be motivated and encouraged to Start being the best versions of themselves today! To learn why they are here and work towards being a beautiful expression of mastery and quality and unconditional love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’m new to Florida, so I’m still trying to find my way around as well. But I love the arts. So, we would definitely have to find some live music, an art museum, karaoke and some nice cuisine. One thing I love about Florida is the variety of different cultures. We are not limited to one style of food. And we can work off the food at the skating rink lol! I love to skate! By night time, a nice chill, roof top spot not too far from the beach with good food and smooth grooves be perfect.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would first like to thank God who deserves all glory and honor. Shoutout to my Mom Min. Kathy Curry (r.i.p.) she always encouraged me and supported me. To my Dad Robert W. Curry Jr and Smomma for being present and teaching me confidence and to aways be me. I want to honor my Spiritual Father, Dr. TD McNutt. Without his love, covering and leadership I would still be trying to “figure it out” God chose him to bring me into my Authenticity and I am forever grateful. Shoutout to my TEWC Family, I Love you all! Thank you to my big sister Arisha who has been my biggest fan from the beginning. Thank you for hyping me up lol. Shoutout to my extended family in North Carolina! I am grateful for those years. Shoutout out to Mrs. Kanika Starr Reynolds who gave me one of the best shampoos ever, and indirectly showed me how to provide quality service from start to finish. Thank you to every client letting me “play in there hair “ throughout my career. Love you all! And last but not least All of my family back home in Grand Rapids, Mi. I love you all!
