We had the good fortune of connecting with Jovana Balaban and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jovana, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At the heart of our business lies a belief in the transformative power of gifting. We embarked on this journey with a simple yet profound purpose: to make the world a better place, one gift at a time.
At Martha’s Vineyard Baskets we firmly believe that gifting has the power to create a ripple effect of kindness and positivity in our communities. By cherishing relationships and nurturing connections through our thoughtfully curated gifts, we aspire to inspire others to do the same. We envision a world where acts of generosity and thoughtfulness are celebrated and cherished, where gifting becomes a catalyst for compassion, understanding, and unity.
In an increasingly fast-paced and disconnected world, we are committed to slowing down, savoring the moments, and celebrating the beauty of human connections.
With each gift we create, we hope to inspire a culture of giving, where acts of kindness and thoughtfulness become second nature. Our mission is to make the world a better place, one cherished relationship at a time.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The idea for Martha’s Vineyard Baskets originated from a genuine need we experienced in our own business. As entrepreneurs in the vacation rental and tourism industry, we faced challenges in finding meaningful gifts for business partners during the holiday season – individuals we highly valued but perhaps didn’t know well enough to choose personalized presents. Six months later, we started by crafting welcome gift bags for vacation rental homeowners and real estate agents, aiming to enhance the guest experience.
However, our vision extends beyond hospitality, as we identified a broader demand for personalized gifts in the corporate world. Our decision to venture into the gift basket business was driven by the desire to not only address our own challenges but also to meet the widespread need for thoughtful and customized gifting in professional relationships.

I feel the entrepreneurial journey is unique for everyone, and there’s no one-size-fits-all formula for success. Persistence and experimenting with different approaches are key to finding what works best for you, your business and the industry you’re in.
In my own business journey, I came to the realization that for my business to thrive, I needed more knowledge and personal growth as well. That became my guiding principle – it always comes back to you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For our best friend’s visit, we’d start with a tour of Martha’s Vineyard, where our story began. The day would kick off with beachside yoga or a bicycle ride up the island in the morning. We’d explore the charming Gingerbread houses in Oak Bluffs or stroll through the shops in Edgartown. Afternoon activities would revolve around chasing sunsets, and as evening falls, we’d gather around a fire to bake s’mores or unwind with a glass of wine while stargazing. It’s a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration in this scenic and special place.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
