We had the good fortune of connecting with Shertara Brazil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shertara, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a little girl, I was a creative butterfly, fluttering between music, poetry, fashion, and glamour. In high school, I went for the full buffet, exploring every opportunity to unleash my talents. I modeled, danced, and even worked as a senior assistant teaching digital media at a magnet school! With all these gifts, I knew I was destined to be a shining star, but first, I had to find my niche. And that’s when the beauty world beckoned. I started off as an eager student, learning the tricks of the trade from my mother. It wasn’t long before I was honing my skills, getting better and better, and discovering the therapeutic benefits of this art form. With my MUA certification under my belt, I wanted to create a safe space for women to embrace their natural beauty, where the brush is just a tool to enhance what’s already there. It’s time to glow, queen, and let your inner beauty radiate!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Let’s dive into the musical side of things, shall we? Singing has always been my go-to escape since I was a young, even making it to honors chorus back in the 4th grade. Music has been my therapy, carrying me through the highs and lows of life. After graduating high school, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Marketing from Johnson and Wales of North Miami, followed by a Master’s in Fine Arts in Media Management from Virginia State University. That’s when my ear for music evolved, and I began learning the ins and outs of what it takes for upcoming artists to make it as independent artists. I got advice from Spectacular of Pretty Ricky, dived into social networks and circles, and even became built my name in the nightlife world. I started managing two artists – one in Houston, Texas, and the other in Miami, Florida. But let me tell you, this industry can be a dark place, and being a manager is no cakewalk. You don’t get paid unless your artist is making money, and they have to stay consistent to pursue their music career. Both of my artists were a headache, to be honest. One got caught up in the streets, and the other wanted to pursue music part-time, which put me back at square one.
But then, I found my calling. I started working for a Music and Fashion blog, where I could step into my artist repertoire and give feedback, develop artists, and conduct interviews about their new music. I even got to interview one of my favorite gospel artists and my soror, Jekayln Carr. You have to know your worth in this industry, whether you’re in the limelight or behind the scenes. Don’t let anyone dim your light. Make your own path, and show them the rising star that you are – that’s what I’m doing.
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be dropping my first EP in the second quarter of 2024, so stay tuned! At Blessed Slayer Productions, we’re all about helping brands, small businesses, and upcoming artists get the recognition they deserve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living the Miami dream for 7 years now, and everyone knows I’m the go-to gal for all things Miami! So, when the Gorillaz Band from London were in town for their last tour, guess who they called? Yours truly, of course! While working at Soho Beach House, I met their tour manager, and they needed a hot spot for their post-show celebration. Soho was a no-go, but I knew just the spot: Bodega Miami Beach. This hidden gem is where the locals go for killer food and a secret club in the back. You even have to take a shot to enter! I hooked them up with a VIP section, and in return, they invited me to their show, which was epic! I got to hang with the band and met their other tour manager, London the Plug, and we partied until 4 am. Trust me, this spot is not to be missed! Don’t fall into the South Beach tourist trap; explore the vibrant Caribbean vibes that Miami is all about. From food to clubs and events, the islands have come together to give us a unique taste of their culture, and it’s a must-try!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to express my gratitude to God, as my achievements would not have been possible without His guidance and support. I want to dedicate this success to my mother, who has been my greatest supporter and believed in me, motivating me to achieve anything I set my mind to. Additionally, I would like to acknowledge my spiritual mentors, including Pastor Tim, Greater Harvest Community, and my spiritual tribe, for helping me align with my divine purpose. Lastly, I extend my appreciation to my fellow sisters of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated, who have supported me through thick and thin, demonstrating the core values of service and progress.
