We had the good fortune of connecting with R.Varito Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi R.Varito, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In the early 1990s in my country Costa Rica, after having worked in the hotel industry, I had the opportunity to take a class to create floral arrangements. It’s when my ability is connected with the desire to create something from nothing.
My relationship with art goes back to the young age of 7 years old, thanks to my parents who were the ones who introduced me to the world of fine arts, perhaps it was what captivated me to start my business when I was 30 in my native country.
The desire to create, to let my imagination fly and the appreciation for nature have always been key to the evolution of my Floral career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The passion I have for flowers goes beyond simply making a bouquet of flowers. During my 33 years working in the floral industry, I have learned that the more I design my life becomes filled with so much energy, it is as if I have found the fountain of my inner youth.
I know that the legacy that I will leave to my successors will be the dedication that I will have put into each of my life projects. Because I believe for real that every human being can do what do.
Art has always been very subjective and that is why the way I see art through flowers is like the prism that is generated from a ray of light through glass.
Yes, there have been moments when I have wanted to do something else, but the strong union that I have created with my passion for the floral world does not let me deviate from what I love most: “Flowers”.
The opportunities I have found over the years, the experiences I have had, and the number of friends and great relationships that have been generated are truly priceless.
I definitely know that one day I will leave this earthly world with a flower in my hand, and from the other, a garden full of the great events and feats that I managed to cultivate will emerge to be remembered by my future generations.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
West Palm Beach has a lot of beautiful and interesting places to visit but it is obligatory to visit The Morrison Flager Museum, The Breakers Hotel, and The Norton Museum. During the Christmas season, one of the major attractions is our big Christmas trees like SANDY created with real sand, or the Tall Tree in Worth Avenue. But that isn’t enough we have extraordinary restaurants in town located on Clematis Street or all the way at Dixie Highway.
Also, Worth Avenue in Palm Beach Island has the most exclusive stores like Tiffanys, Hamilton, Graff Diamonds Carolina Herrera, Dior, and many other well-recognized fashion brands.
The great option is walking in our new Boulevards surrounded by Trees, trailing Plants, and a shopping Center Rosmery Square.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My relationship with art was thanks to my Parents who were the ones who introduced me to the world of fine arts. Both of them were real Artists, my Dad was a simple man Electrician but with the knowledge of how to paint ( watercolor, oil, drawing), and my Mother was in fashion design.
