We had the good fortune of connecting with Clariluz graham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Clariluz, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It is easy to say that science is just a subject in school that you either fail or pass and very few have a passion for it. You are told that there are only but so many paths that you can take whether it be a doctor or a researcher. I beg to differ that if we showed people how beautiful science truly was and that it is an artistic form, many people would also choose to color the world with it. When you speak and dance the language of chemistry you realize it is art in its most natural form. Where you can take elements and package them and make them into household names. As a cosmetic chemist, i have the ability to materialize a brand from its theoretical conception, formulation to the serum or lotion you wear. I pursued a career in chemistry because i felt that i was an artist and a creative. I wanted to paint this world with knowledge and the beauty that chemistry is in all we do. I wanted to show young girls like myself that you too can be a businesswoman and wear a cap by creating products that are organic and safe to use. You are the artist behind every beautiful brand that colors many countertops. Both artistry and creativity have an intersection where you craft as your heart desires. I became a scientist because i knew there was an intersectionality between artistry and creativity.

I Clariluz Graham am a chemist, entrepreneur, author of the book, Battery Life, founder of True Type Inc and the Womens Energizing Network. I am a cosmetic chemist of 10 years; my early research was in transdermal drug delivery systems which nurtured in inner chemist in me to expand in the cosmetic industry. I became a business owner in order to educate the world about safe options for overall wellness and care for our largest organ, the skin. Our primary focus is filling in the gap for melanin-rich consumers who need high-quality products for their individualized melanin-rich concerns.

Where I am today has been a journey but I have surrounded myself with individuals who have answered some of my toughest questions. I have found individuals who have been able to show me where I was making mistakes and showing me where the gaps were in the business. I have had to learn to do it all but I have found that I do not need to know it all. God always fills in the gaps. It is okay not to have all the answers because this is what builds our faith and our resilience. We then become seekers of the light which always leads us to truth. Knocking on all the doors with the expectation that the door that opens will be the one that answers our question. What I know is that have a passion for creating and teaching; showing individuals that chemistry is an art and I know this will open the doors for me. I want the world to know that I am an artist and a creative building the blueprint for the outsiders that never felt like they could stand in the light. I am the intersectionality between science and nature.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend on a tour of Fort Lauderdale and end our trip in Maimi. Depending on the time of her arrival, I would first have lunch or dinner at an Alacati Mediterranean restaurant in Hallendale. The next day we would visit this art installation by Daniel Popper and take some “insta” worthy pictures. We would get to our scheduled spa session at the “Melenated Day Spa”. We would then end the night AfroLouge a fusion between African and Caribbean food. Can you tell we are foodies? The next day we would go and have coffee at “Cleo Royal Coffee where would enjoy art and food with some great vibes. That evening we would then go for drinks at this rooftop lounge called Sparrow. The vibe is fantastic, the drinks are excellent and the views of the city are amazing. The next day, we would then make our way to Bal Harbor Miami where would would shop and enjoy the oceanfront views. We would then, Check into the One Hotel South Beach and relax by the poolside. Then, the next day we would take a private charter “lacajamiami” and enjoy until the sunset. The next day we would visit the Paradox Museum in Maimi and take some more Insta-worthy pictures.. We would get ready to visit another great rooftop bar Rosa Sky. Lastly, we would then end her trip reconnecting with nature in maimi at the Patch of Heaven Sanctuary.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, my mother in love Aleyda Cordoba and my sister in love Keysha Hall. All have been my number-one cheerleaders. They have provided so much guidance and support throughout this journey. I must also mention the Black Girl Social Club. Within this organization, I served as a leader and I met my tribe. Thank you, Carmen Jones! I met my best friend Krystal Lindo- Lopez, my business partner, Sofia Stanley, my business pharmacist Natohya Mallory. I gained a mother in Dr. Jean who not only provides me with career guidance, and mentorship but soothes the little girl inside me through her presence because i admire her. Thank you, Sofia for sharing your mother with me. I have women who surround me with peace and love, Shayla Hamilton, Briana Times, Lashay McKnight, Wanda Hynes, Joelle Nivens, Melyssa Edmonds, and Jennifer Vericain. These women serve as foundational pillars in my life along with my husband as a cornerstone. I love you all!
