We had the good fortune of connecting with Leigh Karsch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leigh, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I always tell our clients what I know from experience: There aren’t any short-cuts!

Many clients we partner with come to us looking for “the” way to launch a business, or market a product or service. The truth is that there is no ‘one way’ to do so, and some approaches vary by industry. Sure, a business may get lucky with a viral moment, but there is no substitute for dedicating yourself to making your business work, understanding what drives you and, ultimately, investing the time, energy and money!

No matter how much technology is at our fingertips, basic marketing rules still apply in regards to using the tools. Consistency and repetition are at the foundation of every successful launch and effective promotion.

What should our readers know about your business?
My creative firm, Fleurish, ink., partners with independent businesses, a majority of which are women-owned. We make impressions! Our approach is simple — ensure our clients look and sound professional (and amazing) by helping them to understand the value they bring to their clients and consumers. We apply marketing tools to their specific business objectives— honing-in on what success means to them, and providing targeted approaches to get them where they want to go. We are creative entrepreneurs, designers, writers, and marketing specialists.

Whether it’s developing a new brand image; redesigning a website; or managing a social media account or campaign; demonstrating a commitment to our clients by providing a consistently high-level of expertise, combined with thoughtful, creative strategy is my hallmark. My team and I pride ourselves by our long-standing client relationships, which are built on delivering excellent service, being honest and working hard.

I am most proud of being in business as a sole proprietor for nearly two decades! All this time, one of the greatest lessons I learned is from … failing! That’s right, years ago, I started a business during one of the largest financial crises to hit the U.S. since the great depression. Deciding to open when I did, in the way I did, was not a great decision, but it was a valuable one. The lessons I learned from my mistakes during that time, and in-turn, deciding to not give up, ended up being the best personal and professional learning experience I’ve ever had. And because of that, I believe, if you are being honest with yourself and taking ownership of your role in it, surviving failure is the best teacher. That said, there is no perfect business plan. There is only trying, then learning as much as you can as you continue on your journey and not being afraid to make a change when necessary.

As we conclude decade #2, I am incredibly grateful for the clients who trust us to shepherd and maintain their image, package their product and craft their voice. From comedians and café owners, to party planners and the financial experts in between, I love the variety of our clients and the creative challenges we have the privilege of facing on behalf of our them every day!

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” — Pele

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Philadelphia: Matine’s Cafe for a French breakfast and pastries in the Chestnut Hill section of the city.
Take a walk on Germantown Avenue and enjoy the shopping and beautiful architecture.
Then, travel to Center City, have a seat in Rittenhouse Square park and when you’re feeling hungry, take a quick walk to Marathon Grill for an iconic Center City lunch (Tina Fey and Amy Poehler just ate there last week when they were in town for their show). Take in a show at the Kimmel Center, and then head over to the Continental for cocktails and dinner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so very appreciative of our client and friend, Renee Patrone Rhinehart, CEO of two amazing companies–Party Host Helpers and Events by Renee, who continues to trust in my and my team’s expertise as a creative partner, and also who suggested I be featured as part of Shoutout Miami.
