We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandra Libertad Cadenas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alejandra, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Integrating balance is an important aspect of my life, I’ve been navigating the rivers of transformation, mostly since I decided to emigrate to this country looking for a better life quality for me and my family 8 years ago.
In 2017, after the birth of my 2nd child, between the transition of being a part-time mother, working to save my marriage, wanting to live from what I am passionate about, finding alternative resources with which I could cover the daily needs; there was the desire to discover myself as a woman and listen to the call to look inside and go deep. In those next 2 years and after my separation, I have been discovering that I don’t need to be anything but vulnerable and human, to melt in the face of change and to believe that what I really need is what I have in this present moment.
Balance for me means having the capacity to accept any type of emotions and feelings with all the information they have for us, about us.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My photography work stems from my passion for art and communicating emotions in all their forms. Since childhood, I’ve been deeply involved in the arts, starting with drawing, and then exploring musical instruments and singing. It wasn’t until I entered the Central University of Venezuela in 2006 that a profound curiosity for photography was sparked, thanks to a friend with whom I conducted experiments in black and white in the non-digital era, in the darkroom. Around 2008, I decided to take it more seriously, enrolling in a basic and advanced photography course with Professor Joswald Niño at UCV, where it all began. Shifting to digital, I explored photography from my shy side, capturing moments with friends, family, and during travels.
In 2011, I ventured into entrepreneurship with my children’s entertainment company, incorporating photography as one of the services. Faced with the challenging situation in my country, Venezuela, in 2015, my husband, daughter, and I decided to emigrate to the United States, where I resolved that photography would be my great ally. Initially, showcasing my work was difficult, especially since I hardly knew anyone in Miami, but I leaped. Between part-time jobs and failed attempts, after becoming a mother for the second time and giving birth to my son at home, I felt drawn to birth photography, discovering my purposes amid all my emotions.
In 2017, amid various emotional and economic challenges, including divorce and being a single mother, I wish to, through my passion and images, convey a message to all mothers who feel undervalued. In 2021, between this discovery, I created with one of my best friends and now business partner, Alejandrina Orta, Alternat Agency, a digital marketing agency that’s more than just a business; it’s a vision, a commitment to creating something different and inspiring within the digital landscape. At the heart of our agency is a dedicated purpose: to empower individuals and businesses to communicate their ideas with intention.
With photography, my purpose is to encourage them to reclaim the power we know we possess as women in the community, being allies, building bonds, support networks, and inspiration for other women. I aspire to be INSPIRATION, letting every woman in the world know that she is not alone and that, before being a mother, wife, companion, or daughter, she is a WOMAN who feels, stumbles, pulsates, in complete acceptance. Part of my mission is to empower every woman who steps in front of my lens, to magnify herself, shine, and blossom into her true essence.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my kids, Amarie and Eros for bringing me to earth and being my little mirrors.
To my mom Hilda, my sisters Karol, Teresa and all the women that believe and walk this life with me, who inspire me daily to continue creating sacred spaces for art and soul empowerment through my images.
To my dad Alfredo, my brothers Robert, Ronald and all my relationships with masculine.
