We had the good fortune of connecting with Vie Oneiro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I come from a family of musicians and artists. A creative path seemed written in the stars and it truly is one of my greatest loves. It would be beautiful to one day work on my art full time, but there’s a lot to be done before getting there.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a songwriter, singer, rapper, and poet. My style ranges across many genres; neo-soul, hip-hop, alternative, folk, trip-hop, etc. The more I write, the more I like to experiment with my vocal and stylistic range. It was a long battle to get to where I am today with my art, because I placed roadblocks for myself. From self-doubt to years of struggling with addiction, I’ve had to overcome hurdles I placed in my own path, heal, and grow. Find a place where I could be completely genuine in what I create and wise enough to not sabotage any opportunities. Now that I am almost 6 years sober from alcohol, I am ready to share my art with the world, that we can create meaningful art for the love of it, even in a world consumed with the desire for commercial success.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For sure I’d have to take them around Little Havana! Many delicious taco spots along 8th street and Honduran baleadas at El Paseo Catracho are a must. Lil Greenhouse Grill in Overtown is an absolute gem for soul food with great service. I need to make the trek out there again soon! Lagniappe in Wynwood is one of my favorites! Ever since my friend took me there for the first time, it has been a go-to for live jazz and finger-licking charcuterie. Sarussi Subs on Bird Road is an absolute treat. Their fritanga bowl and fritanga wraps are a must-have, especially with their cilantro garlic sauce! A bit far from the city, but an honorable mention would be Robert Is Here Fruit Stand in Homestead. Organic produce, locally sourced honeys and jams, and other home-made treats; I’m a sucker for all of that!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Mystix and Traumatize have been my mentors and have dedicated their time to teaching me the tools of the trade. From social media management to self-promotion, they’ve taken me under their wing and have shown me the things they’ve learned along the way. I am so grateful for them!
