We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariana Jemison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariana, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career because I knew I had something to offer. If I didn’t pursue my career as a musician, then I would be doing a disservice to myself, and others that could be impacted by my art. When I started to share my music with family and friends, I started to see that my music was more then just a hobby. With the help of supportive people around me, I started to see my art as a potential career.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m Ariana Jemison, a 16-year-old singer/songwriter from Fort Pierce, Florida. My musical journey began in church, where I started singing and writing lyrics at an early age. Despite growing up in a small town with limited examples of pursuing passions, my dream is to be a musician. Overcoming doubts about if I was good enough, or if it was viable, I treated music as a hobby. As I matured, I realized its significance in expressing my emotions and depicting personal struggles. My latest project, “ANA” the EP, reflects my experiences with loss, anxiety, growing up, and self-esteem.Vulnerability in my music is crucial. At 16, I graduated early from high school to fully commit to my musical aspirations. I aim to create authentic and honest art that reflects me. I strive to show Jesus throughout all of my art, and create music that makes people think, feel seen, and wanting more.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting my area, I would start by getting coffee from cool beans in fort Pierce, I would then go to an art museum in downtown. For lunch we would hit up the taco spot, super taco. Then, we would go to beach, and maybe play some basketball or volleyball for fun. We would end the day off with the most beautiful view from the top of the parking garage downtown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout-out my mom and dad first for being the most supportive parents on earth. I would also like to shoutout The Lindsay School of the Arts for changing my life, supporting me through everything, and helping me fall more in the love with music. I love you.
