We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadine Zumot and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nadine, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Yes! I disagree with some of the traditional financial and money mindset advice that is considered the “norm”. Typical financial advice offers cookie cutter templates that do not honor our individual stories and circumstances, which is something that further perpetuates financial shame and disempowerment.

Take emotional spending as an example. Ninety percent of my clients suffer from this, and when they come to me for a holistic, trauma-informed approach to money, they are often burnt out from traditional financial advice that never took a holistic overview of their life’s journey, and that leaves them feeling ashamed, guilty and like something about them was broken.

The traditional advice given to someone who emotionally spends (and we ALL emotionally spend to some extent!) is to follow a budget, to cultivate a positive money mindset and to identify their emotional triggers.

Although this type of advice is well-intended, it does not offer the recipient a solution or the tools to process and heal the underlying emotions that drive the emotional spending.

This is why I always offer my clients emotional education, and we work on healing their relationship with money before we dive into financial literacy and education.

What should our readers know about your business?
In the very beginning, I set out to help people become better with money using the traditional budgets, strategy and money mindset work, until I hit a wall in my own personal growth when I realized that we are only as wealthy as our beliefs allow us to be, and that our finances are deeper than dollars and balancing a checkbook.

I saw very clearly that if we wanted to have money by our side throughout our lives, to nourish us, support us, and facilitate our dreams, hopes and lifestyle, we needed to heal our relationship with what money signifies to us on a deep, subconscious level…. we needed to work on our relationship with our self-worth which all starts with inner child healing, working on expanding our nervous system’s capacity to receive and hold in abundance, and our ability to regulate our emotions.

So this is when I forged through the path to what I call now Holistic Money Healing, which creates a deeper, more profound transformation that cannot be achieved through doing budgets and changing our mindset.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend visits me in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I will be sure to take her on the Sandia Tramway, and for a weekend trip to Truth or Consequences and then to White Sands National Park. I would also take her to the various museums and exhibitions that celebrate the rich indigenous culture, and show her the wonderful galleries and artisanal markets that display handmade rugs, baskets and artwork done by local arts.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to Anna Ferguson and Marina Yanay-Triner and their program Body Sense!
