We had the good fortune of connecting with Devron & Cortney Glenn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devron & Cortney, what role has risk played in your life or career?
What is scarier than taking a risk? We think it’s staying exactly where you are. As humans, we want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. We want to grow and evolve. When we stay in our comfort zones and don’t take leaps of faith, we are doing ourselves a disservice. We are depriving our community of what we have to offer. Everyone has their unique skills, gifts and talents that they can bring to the world around them.

This mindset has transformed the growth and success of HomeVine and had made a huge impact on the community around us. What if we would have played it small? What if we would have not believed in ourselves or had the courage to start a business from the ground up? Many families would not have had the opportunities that they have had. We provide solutions for people as a company. There would be more homes around the city abandoned and in desperate need of renovations brining the economy of the city down. We renovate homes and create more clean, affordable housing; bolstering the health of the housing market. Taking risks makes a difference.

We often forget that we have an impact on the world around us. Every action has a butterfly effect even if it seems small. It is “a risk” to bet on yourself. It is “risky” to fully commit to creating something that you have no idea “how” to create. When we first started HomeVine, we had minimal savings. We bought our first home by borrowing from our retirement fund. The one thing we knew is that we wanted to start a real estate investing company. We didn’t care what it was going to take, because we believed in the vision. There was a desire in us to be like the couples on HGTV flipping houses. But more importantly, we want to beautify the city and contribute to keeping the Florida economy thriving as many local businesses have.

By betting on yourself and taking a risk you are creating a positive environment for those around you and your community. People need what you have to give. We encourage anyone who has a dream to pursue that dream. You wouldn’t have that desire in you, if you were not capable of achieving it. Commit to yourself, take that risk and shoot for the stars. You have absolutely nothing to lose. The experience and growth you gain alone just from “trying” will impact your life and open doors that you have no idea are even there for you. The best thing you can do is just start. There’s never a better time to start than right now.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
HomeVine is a local real estate company. We buy distressed homes and renovate them back to their glory. We also provide solutions to the people in our community when they have a real estate related issue and do not know the best course of action to take. Often families are faced with overwhelming circumstances that they can’t find a solution to (like owning a home with the roof falling in, extreme violations and money owed to the city or their house is about to be foreclosed on them) and they are looking for a way to stay in their homes without forfeiting them to a mortgage company or the city.

Our business is built around helping families find a solution or even just offering answers to complex questions and providing support. Real estate related concerns do not always black and white answer that you can “google” and it can be daunting receiving a notice that your about to lose your home. We have encountered so many families that were behind on taxes and the city was about to take their home from them. We want families to know that if they are in this situation, there are solutions out there that they may not even be thinking of. People are not alone; we can provide solutions.

HomeVine just launched an initiative where we are providing families with funds, in order to pay off back taxes with the city (so that they do not lose their homes). Many people are not aware that if they do not pay their property taxes and are behind in taxes for 2 years, they are at risk of losing their property. Recently, we had a woman call us who was $40K behind in taxes and was about to lose her home. We were able to loan her the $40K and now she is able to stay in her home.

You would be surprised who in your community wants to help and is able and willing to give you solutions to what seems like could only end in a devastating outcome. There has been so many scenarios just like this one where we were able to provide resources and creative solutions to people in the local Miami-Dade and Broward County communities.

We are proud that our knowledge and expertise in the real estate field has provided such a profound impact on the community around us. We are able to think outside of the box and “find a way” that everyone can benefit from. Even a bad situation, there’s always a way to find a positive outcome. There’s always a solution waiting. It’s just about finding the answer or knowing the right person who can get the answer for you. We want to be that for people.

If we could tell families anything, it would be that there is hope and they are not alone in trying to figure it all out on their own. That’s why we have experts in specific fields to provide support to one another and lift each other up. We think just knowing that you have someone to bounce an idea off of, or to give you a little guidance is helpful. We truly want to help our community, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. That is why we build this company and why we are so successful today because HomeVine is more than just a “business” – we are a resource for our community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We all know Miami’s famous David Grutman who owns Groot Hospitality. What we love about Dave is he was a local bar tender who learned the industry and build his business through networking and relationship. If you want to be sure to have a good time and feel all of the “Miami Vibes” we would recommend checking out some of his places:

the goodtime hotel: great location right near South Beach
LIV nightclub: once in a lifetime nightlife experience with great music
KOMODO: the ambience and interior design is an unmatched spot to eat sushi
Papi Steak: luxury upscale steakhouse
SWAN: right in Design District featuring 5 star dishes – the true date night vibe

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to thank VoyageMIA for pouring their hearts into local business around the community. From highlighting local businesses, to cheering on our city’s entrepreneurs and celebrating their success stories; the community feels supported by everything you do. Plus, you have given us some incredible restaurants to try around Miami that we would have never found without VoyageMIA. You have truly made a difference in showing the people of our city what is possible for them and showcasing the power of collaboration. Thank you for recognizing us and making us feel special.
