Meet Nowé Harris-Smith | Mixed Media Artist and Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nowé Harris-Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nowé, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I became an artist because I was always fascinated with drawing and creating. Animation influenced my earliest works and gave me the courage to begin drawing realistic interpretations of life. Once I became an adult, I realized art was my passion and it’s been my career ever since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a mixed media artist. I specialize in various mediums including photography. I’m proud of my creative journey and my willingness to explore. I believe as artists, we should not remain stagnant in our practice but always seek to evolve and change. I became the artist I am today by always seeking to develop my craft. I want the world to know how diverse art is especially in the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting Nassau, Bahamas, I recommend checking out all the art galleries. We have a great art and music scene. You can visit the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, TERN, The Current, Doongalik Studios, Hillside House, and so many more. You can also check places like The Island House or Bon Vivants for live music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s so many people I can name but my biggest supporters have been my friends, family, and creative community here in Nassau. The support and feedback I’ve been shown truly empowers me.
