We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Jade Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savannah Jade, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Modelling and content creation is like a sport! You have to be disciplined and focused on set and while creating content to give your clients the best look and feel in alignment with what they want. I grew up playing soccer (we call it football in the Caribbean lol) so I understood the value of discipline and what it meant to be competitive from early in my life. That competitive spirit stays with me throughout every different aspect of my career and I am really grateful for my foundation in sports as it shapes the way I approach the modelling industry now.
I think it’s a good time in the modelling industry because social media has changed the way major agencies cast. I also love the fact that inclusivity and ethnic diversity are more top of mind in the industry now because as a Caribbean woman I have very diverse features. As a little girl growing up in Trinidad & Tobago, these ‘diverse features’ did not always feel like endearing qualities so to see them embraced now is so heart warming for me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up , my dream was actually to be a professional soccer player. My love for the sport was cultivated by my relationship with my Dad. Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, soccer consumed every fibre of my being and it gave me a great sense of purpose.
My Mom encouraged me to get into model in the latter part of my adolescent years and even though it was a new world for me. , I loved it. It made me aware of my grace , my poise and my beauty in way that I had never experienced before , so I decided to pursue it more seriously coming out of teenage years , into my early 20s.
As an ethnically diverse Caribbean woman, it wasn’t always easy to find my place in the industry. It took me a while to a while to find the right team who understood my value, my vision and one that had the most genuine intentions for me but I am grateful to say that I have been blessed to find that now.
2024 was a difficult year but it was a life changing year in my career in so many ways. My team at Hi Esteem Agency connected me with my team at Ikon Model Management and now I am apart of Wilhelmina Miami. I have been blessed to work with brands like Nike Toronto , The Mane Choice and Sony Music Canada all in one year as a model and content creator all in one year.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Omg sooooo many but I would have to say MILA is special to my team and I , for sentimental reasons.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh my gosh! So many people ! First of all , I have to start with my family because being from the Caribbean, we are very family oriented and they have been my support system from day one. I also have to thank my amazing management team at Hi Esteem Agency & Ikon Management. I am blessed to have managers who care about my success and that I can trust. Of course very big shoutout to my WILHELMINA family. So grateful to Paulette Ellison for giving me a shot at Wilhelmina Miami. I just want to make the Caribbean proud and give other little girls from Trinidad & Tobago hope that they can achieve great things as well.
