We had the good fortune of connecting with Katana K and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katana, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Other than deciding to work for myself, the single most important decision I made that has contributed to my success is developing an intimate relationship with God. Growing in partnership with God allowed for me to release the need to be in “control” and allowed for my steps to be ordered and aligned with His will. I’ve come to learn that with God, all things are possible and even when it doesn’t seem like it, all things are truly working together for your good.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At this point of my life, I identify most as a creative. Within our family business, Chef Reece Kitchen, a Jamaican Fusion hot spot located in Davie, FL, I play the role of our Marketing Director. Within that role I wear many hats consisting of publicist, marketer, graphic designer, creative director, social media manager and more. Outside of creating content for Chef Reece Kitchen, I also create content for my personal brand on platforms like Instagram and Youtube.
When I was younger, I didn’t view myself as creative. I thought being “creative” meant one thing. But it actually could mean many things. A lot of the skills I use in my day to day work tasks now, I learned along the way of “trying to figure it out.”
I always had a deep burning desire to live a life of freedom. I knew that God was calling me to a life of entrepreneurship but I just wasn’t sure of how I would get there. Throughout my journey, I’ve had over 25 *jobs*, many hustles and a number of attempted businesses. Each experience allowed me to learn something and I am forever grateful for my entire journey and where I am today.
Wherever, you are on your journey. Stay encouraged. Believe in yourself. As long as you move with intention, and keep God first. You’ll get to exactly where you need to be.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For the absolute best food, they will want to eat at Chef Reece Kitchen multiple times during their stay. Chef Reece Kitchen is open Monday-Saturday and offers dishes like Jerk Chicken, Honey Garlic Salmon Pasta, Oxtail, Wings, and more.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first and foremost give a shoutout to my amazing Husband, Randy. My husband was the first person I met that I could share things about myself that I could not share and relate with anyone else. My husband came into my life and immediately took on the role as my spiritual guide and teacher. Randy has poured so much love, wisdom, & guidance into me and has created such a safe space for me to blossom into the woman that I am today.
Also, I would like to shoutout out a book that truly changed my life and opened my eyes , back in college which is The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes. It’s a must read.
