Meet Janelle Augustin | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Janelle Augustin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janelle, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is necessary part of any career or business. I took a risk even starting my business. My husband and I had to spend our savings with the hope that this would be a successful venture. When we have to pay a large fee to be apart of an event we run the risk of not breaking even if it has a low turnout. Every investment is a risk, and we can’t grow if we don’t invest.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nelly’s Fried Creamy makes your new favorite dessert, fried ice cream! We take a classic treat, like a donut, brownie, cookie, or cake, wrap it around ice cream, then batter it and fry it. It’s the perfect mix of cool, creamy, warm and crunchy. One bite, and your taken into a trance. You’ve never had anything like it! I got where I am today by being consistent. My goal was to introduce fried ice cream to everyone I came across. To do that, I had to be in front of people as much as possible. So I promoted online and attend as many events as time would allow. Once I started my business, I never stopped. This was not easy. In fact, it’s exhausting. Life has thrown me many curveballs, from broken generators and freezers, to rained out events and damaged vehicles. And now we’re in the middle of a pandemic. However, there’s so much you learn about yourself and your business along the way. I’ve learned how to to push through the problems because honestly, there’s really no other choice. I’ve learned that when failure is not an option, you’ll work hard to win.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
South Florida has so much to offer! I would start with a trip to West Palm Beach for Lion Country Safari. Broward has some of my favorite places to eat and drink, like Smoke BBQ, The Alchemist, Poke Ramen Asian Soul Kitchen, Fat Boyz BBQ, and JW Pastry. Being raised in Ft. Lauderdale, I can’t let anyone not experience the classic gem, The Jungle Queen. If the time is right, we’d stop by the Miami Dade Youth Fair, as I never miss it when it rolls around. Havana Harry’s and The River Seafood Oyster Bar in Miami are also a must. Lastly, we’d take a tour around Homestead and head to Knaus Berry Farms for their sticky buns, run through the sunflower fields at The Berry Farm, have a drink at Schnebly’s Winery, and feed some animals at Robert Is Here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my tribe, my friends and family who are there for me day in and day out assisting me in every part of my life. From those who help me make my products, to those who help me pack up for an event, to those who take care my son so my dear husband and I can spend the day setting up shop all around South Florida. Thank you!
