We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabella Carvallo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabella, what makes you happy? Why?
My family, I’ve always been very close to my parents; they are my life’s pillars. They made me who I am today, and sometimes, I don’t sufficiently express my gratitude to them. My mom has a unique ability to create a warm environment where I feel safe to express myself, and my dad always encouraged me to follow my dreams. It’s their encouragement that fuels my passions and dreams, reminding me that I’m strong enough to overcome any challenge. As first generation immigrant daughter, I’ve always had the wicked thought to always achieve perfection, to make everyone proud, and not let my parent’s sacrifice be in vain. Perfectionism is a poisonous trait, and I had to learn that the hard way. Life has taught me many lessons along the way on how to be the best version of myself. I couldn’t have done that with my parents. My stepdad is key in the process of my journey, and he always celebrated my achievements, no matter how small. Reminding me that I’m never alone in my journey. I love my parents, all three of them.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve learned many lessons along the way in my creative journey. Starting my nail business from the ground has been an incredible experience filled with so many valuable lessons, challenges, and sometimes disappointments. I’ve discovered the power of creativity in not just my designs but in myself. My clients have become my best friends, pushing me to innovate not just in art but also in my personal growth. As challenges arise unexpectedly, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and adaptability to overcome any challenge in my way. It’s hard being your boss, and you expect too much of yourself, which makes disappointment hit harder, learning how passion and hard work can truly turn a dream into reality. I am very grateful to my clients and friends who have supported me and my nail business. Every step of my journey—whether it is a step forward or a setback—has been a vital part of this rewarding nail adventure, reminding me that personal and business growth often comes from stepping outside my comfort zone.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my high school music teacher, KP! The depth of her love and passion for teaching shaped me into the person I am today. She is a powerful woman, musician, mother, and loving educator who never let her students down. I valued every lesson she taught me, whether it was a life lesson or a music one. When I had nowhere to go or a place to fit in, she opened her classroom and wisdom to me, and for that, I express my heartfelt gratitude to her. I found the music in my heart thanks to her, and I genuinely appreciate the time invested and all the memories I shared during her teaching reign. I thank her for believing in me, challenging me, nurturing my curiosity, and filling my heart with music. I’ll carry your lessons and wisdom with me for the rest of my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor. Thank you for being my guiding light throughout my high school journey and for your unwavering support. I am truly grateful for everything you’ve done for me, and I feel fortunate to have had you as my teacher. I am truly her biggest fan, love u KP.
