We had the good fortune of connecting with Janie Desir and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi janie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
What motivated me to start Teaching Your Baby In Braille were two personal reasons. First, I wanted to prepare my son for the future. When he reaches an age where the eye disease Keratoconus may develop, causing him to lose his sight, I want him to be ready and well-prepared. Second, I faced significant challenges in finding suitable materials to teach my son Braille, apart from what was available on the internet. Additionally, I wanted to form a special, bonding relationship with my son through this process, which has been incredibly rewarding. My mission is to inspire and empower visually impaired toddlers by providing fun, engaging, high-quality Braille books that foster a love of reading and learning from an early age. I am committed to creating inclusive, accessible educational resources that nurture imagination, support literacy development, and ensure every child, regardless of visual ability, has the opportunity to experience the joy of learning.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
This imitative is particularly meaningful as it is inspired by my own experience as a blind mother seeking resources for my son. My books will benefit a lot of family in the blind community as well bilingual children with special needs locally and around the world. My toddler book series supports early literacy development which is crucial for the cognitive and educational growth of visually impaired toddlers. Resources for visually impaired children 0-5 are limited in our community. My books fills a critical void in the community by providing much needed accessible educational resources. I support other businesses/organizations by bridging the gap and ensuring that these children are better prepared when they enter their programs. My business offers a fun, sensory, and educational service to preschools and other academic organizations. Additionally, for the community, I host events with updated resources and organize “Sippy Cup & Paint” sessions every other month. These activities not only engage the community but also provide valuable educational experiences for children. My business, Teaching Your Baby in Braille, offers a unique and invaluable service that sets it apart from competitors. My value proposition is rooted in my commitment to providing inclusive, bilingual educational resources tailored for both sighted and visually impaired children. My books are not only educational but also fun and engaging, ensuring that children enjoy learning. The bilingual aspect broadens accessibility and inclusivity. Furthermore, I go beyond just selling books; I actively engage with the community through events and workshops, such as “Sippy Cup & Paint” sessions and presentations that raise awareness about the importance of Braille. By choosing Teaching Your Baby in Braille, customers are investing in quality, inclusive educational materials that promote early childhood development and foster a special bonding experience between parents and their children. Now I’m just trying to find funds to print out my books to share it to the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would like to leave the country and go visit Tokyo and or Egypt, and first thing first is to sleep in and to have a spa day. I would go to different kid friendly places because yes I will be traveling with my mini me. I would eat at places that I took for forever to look up and to make sure that the menu is suitable for my son. I would also go and check out their autistic kid friendly things we can do if not I’ll make up my own to keep vacations. But I love going to different kind of museums

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I would give GOD the main shoutout because my faith is what makes me keep pushing forward, the next person is myself everyday I wake up I amaze myself of how I just never give up and not giving myself any room for self curation because I have a little person that looks up me. My son for making my world shine brighter than ever in my dark tunnel. With Ali part of my life have really shown me how I really want to be a better person that can stand up for what’s right, fair, in the most humble and respectful way. My family for always having my back. Now as in for Jack Nichol from Abode Accessibility who helped me to make the Abode program accessible for the visually impaired/ blind people like myself, he helped me up until i graduated with my Bachelor Degree. WeVenure thank you for making me apart of your family and also helping me push my business as far as I got and we are still moving forward ALL GAS no breaks. Also to my community the treasure coast area thank you everyone for your support.
