We had the good fortune of connecting with Judy Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Judy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my business was my children. I started photography in 2018 just as a side job and hobby but in 2020 I had just given birth to my second child, the pandemic had just started and I really just wanted to be with my kids. I wanted to be a present parent.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a photographer, my art is rooted in storytelling. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with my subjects on a personal level, allowing me to capture authentic moments.
I am particularly proud of my work. I don’t follow the trends of what’s in “style” or use crazy filters, I love true to color photos . I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with various communities and showcase their stories. It was incredibly rewarding to preserve their stories through my lens.
My journey to this point has been anything but easy. I started out as a hobbyist, photographing friends and family, but as my passion grew, I decided to pursue photography professionally. The transition was challenging; I faced self-doubt, financial instability, and the pressure to differentiate myself in a crowded market. However, I overcame these hurdles by staying true to my vision. I invested time in attending workshops, and learning from fellow photographers. Networking also played a crucial role; building relationships within the industry opened doors to collaborations and opportunities that helped me grow.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of resilience. There were moments when I felt like giving up, but each setback taught me something valuable and pushed me to evolve.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a matter of fact! My best friend is visiting from Tennessee this week!
We plan on going to the beach at sunrise and just soak up the sunshine and beautiful weather we have been having. Reading for a bit then going to lunch and drinks at Bennys on the beach. We are going to watch the candlelight music concert. And just enjoy our time. We are beach people so most likely be at the beach the whole time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family, without a doubt. They have always supported me made me feel no dream is big and out of reach. My husband, he has never said no to any of my dreams or crazy ideas. He has always pushed me to follow my dreams. And supported me
