We had the good fortune of connecting with Siobhan O’dwyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Siobhan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I grew up as a competitive dancer- dance was my first love and true passion, and all I wanted to focus my future on. When it came time for college decisions, I ended up going the academic route versus moving straight to NYC after high school to audition and perform. After 6 intense years studying pharmacy, I graduated with a huge need for getting myself back into the arts- a constant feeling I felt since my last dance competition. I picked up some fancy camera gear at the time and I dove into photography as I focused on traveling and exploring the world after graduation. All self taught, I fell in love with photographing the world, specifically the California coast and wildflower landscapes. During a move from California to New York City, my nostalgia for the wild west coast nature took over and I found myself editing my photos on my subway rides to and from work, incorporating and blending some of my favorite flower landscapes into other photos for my own fun. What started then as a hobby back in 2016 is now what you see today..

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There are so many different angles I could touch on in this art journey that I am truly so grateful for- the connections and friendships made through the creative world is one of my favorite parts about my career as an artist. I feel like my journey is sort of unique in that I never set out to make this my career- to be honest, I had no idea something like this was even possible at the time. Instagram was still sort of new, and I just loved to have a space where I could share my work, mainly just for me as sort of a diary to see my progress with my creativity. My account changed within a matter of days after working with Urban Outfitters, my first real gig (and something I had little to no experience with at the time), and with this major shift and attention to my work I was putting out, I realized I couldn’t stop. I truly love creating and being able to touch others emotionally with my work- it’s a feeling that will never ever get old to me, and something I felt back in 2016 and still feel to this day today. No matter the challenges that have come and gone with pursuing an artist’s life, I truly feel when you absolutely love what you do and pour yourself into it 100%, only success can come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a fun question because I split my time between Soho, Manhattan and Southern California. Soho is such a fun, easy place to have a friend visit and 100% will have a great time- I have my fav spots all around Soho for drinks/ food, shopping, heading uptown to visit the MoMa and other museums.. NYC is endless and has so much culture, I’ll always love it. Out West, it’s definitely more my kind of pace. Hands down, we’d do a fun road trip along the coast heading up North and back down. I love eating in Carmel, it’s such a quiet, beautiful area with good food and stunning scenery- taking advantage of the West Coast nature is always my top priority and what I’d want anyone in my life to experience while visiting me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Easiest answer ever- my Mom. She raised me as a single Mom, guiding me and instilling the best values , pushing me to pursue my dreams and reach my greatest potential in every area of life, all while being my biggest supporter in everything I’ve done, My Mom herself is the biggest badass too- shows me every day you can do anything you set your mind and heart to and I love her more than words can describe.
