We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Collorone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue a creative and artistic career because, growing up, I always had a deep love for the arts. Whether it was painting, decorating, singing, acting, or playing music, I was always drawn to activities that allowed me to express myself. My hope has always been that, through my art, I could not only connect with myself but also inspire and bring joy to others in the process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a Production Designer, my art revolves around creating immersive and compelling worlds that support and enhance the narrative of any project I work on. Whether it’s for film or TV, I’m always focused on telling the story visually—through the design of sets, props, and environments. Every piece I craft is meant to elevate the emotions of a scene and transport audiences into the world of the characters. I think what sets me apart is my ability to blend practicality with artistry, always with the end goal of contributing to a seamless visual experience that resonates emotionally.

I’m especially proud of my work on Rope Tied, directed by Chiara Padajek and Evan Friedman. It was my first feature film, and I had the incredible opportunity to work alongside Oscar-winning actor Dimiter Marinov. This experience was deeply meaningful to me, as it pushed me to grow as a designer while contributing to a project I truly believe in.

My journey began as the Production Manager for the TV station WNYF in Fredonia, where I gained hands-on experience in production design. However, my passion for design started much earlier. Growing up, I was always playing with building blocks at my grandma’s house, rearranging my room, and even shaping furniture pieces out of tissue paper and tape for my Barbie dolls. These early experiences laid the foundation for my love of creating spaces and designing environments.

My career continued growing at the University of Miami, where I paved the path as the first graduate student to defend a production design thesis. This accomplishment was a defining moment in my journey and provided me with an invaluable platform to explore my creative ideas in depth.

The journey to where I am now wasn’t always easy. It took a lot of persistence, grit, and a willingness to learn from every experience. My biggest hurdle early on was realizing that rejection is part of the process, and I had to use those moments as fuel to keep going. Through hard work, determination, and a great deal of networking, I found my way into the kinds of opportunities that allowed me to grow professionally.

I’ve learned that business is just as much about building relationships and being adaptable as it is about creative vision. Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way include staying humble, being open to feedback, and learning how to trust my instincts while still collaborating with others. It’s important to remember that setbacks are often stepping stones to greater things.

Ultimately, what I want the world to know about me and my brand, South Shore Studios, is that I am driven by passion for storytelling and creating spaces that spark emotional connections. I want to be known for my ability to deliver impactful, innovative designs that elevate the overall storytelling experience. South Shore Studios represents my commitment to excellence in design, and my story is one of perseverance, hard work, and a never-ending curiosity to see what’s possible.

I’m always excited about what’s coming next, and I hope my work continues to inspire others to push the boundaries of their own creativity!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting, we’d start with breakfast at Cecile’s in South Miami, then hit up El Sabor de la Esquina, the best taco truck in town. We’d grab lunch in Calle Ocho in Little Havana, spend some time at Bill Baggs/Crandon Beach, and for a fun night out, we’d explore the nightlife in Wynwood or head to Barsecco in Brickell. If it’s a Thursday, we’d swing by the Art Club. For a more relaxed evening, Lagniappe in the Design District would be the perfect spot for jazz and charcuterie boards. I’d also take them for a Saturday stroll through a local vintage street market or the antique mall y’all in Palmetto Bay.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have been many people who have helped me reach the place I am today. First and foremost, my parents and brother who instilled in me a strong work ethic and a “don’t take no for an answer” mindset. My grandparents, who continue to support me and find my endeavors and adventures entertaining. My coworkers, who I’m fortunate enough to call my best friends. And my high school music theory teacher, Mr. Schaefer, who was the first person to make me believe that pursuing a career in film was possible.
