We had the good fortune of connecting with Gian Derek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gian, why did you pursue a creative career?
It was my passion for art — not just music, but creativity in general. I’ve always been inspired by people who dared to make a living doing what they love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is deeply rooted in emotion, rhythm, and storytelling. As a DJ and music producer, I try to create sonic experiences that go beyond just sound — I want people to feel something real, to connect with a moment, a memory, or a state of mind. What sets me apart is my constant search for authenticity. I’m not chasing trends — I’m chasing a feeling.

Getting to where I am today definitely hasn’t been easy. It’s been years of trial and error, long nights, and moments of doubt. But I’ve learned that consistency, self-belief, and surrounding yourself with the right people are key. The biggest lesson for me has been learning to trust my own voice and embrace my own journey, no matter how different it looks from others’.

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about my story, it’s that this is all driven by love — love for music, for art, for connection. My brand isn’t just about sounds, it’s about building a world where people can be present, feel deeply, and let go.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to Miami for a week, I’d show them the perfect mix of beach, food, art, and of course — music. We’d catch the sunrise at South Pointe, eat at spots like Mandolin or Coyo Taco, explore Wynwood and the Pérez Art Museum, and hang out by the water in Coconut Grove. At night, we’d dive into the city’s electronic scene: dancing at Club Space, getting lost in the vibes of Factory Town, and discovering underground sounds at Floyd or ATV Records. Miami’s energy is unreal — it’s the kind of place that feeds both your soul and your creativity.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to the people who’ve truly been part of this journey — the ones who’ve listened to my sets, shared my music, and shown up with love and energy. And also to the artists I grew up watching, who lit the spark in me. Their courage to live through art made me believe it was possible.
