We had the good fortune of connecting with Bertha Osorio-Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bertha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My journey into entrepreneurship began during the pandemic, a time when I had just lost my job and was forced to make a bold decision: either stay stuck in the uncertainty or build something meaningful for myself and others. That’s when I launched the Institute for Optimal Healing and Aesthetics. It was a leap of faith rooted in my passion for wellness and functional medicine.

That business carried me through some pivotal moments, but in July 2024, I knew something had to shift. I was no longer the same person. Becoming a solo mom by choice to my daughter Ava had completely transformed my outlook on life, work, and purpose. I found myself craving more freedom, deeper presence, and alignment with my soul. That’s when the rebirth happened—and I rebranded to Optimal Weight Loss Institute.

It wasn’t an easy decision. The Institute was sentimental. But my priorities had changed: I was now building not just a business, but a legacy—one that allows me to show up for my children, my patients, and myself with intention and balance. I streamlined my services into boutique, concierge-style care. I focused on medically assisted weight loss, hormone support, aesthetics, and functional wellness. And now, I’m expanding into mental health as I pursue my second board certification as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

A major turning point in this evolution was my mother’s accident in early 2024. It could have taken her life. That experience changed me. It deepened my faith, shifted my priorities even more, and awakened a new curiosity in regenerative medicine. I’ve always loved this field, but now I get to walk through it with my mom as my patient—and it’s been powerful. She is my lifeline, and the thought of almost losing her brought everything into focus. It’s one of the reasons I changed my schedule, enrolled Ava in school full-time, and released my nanny. It reminded me of the life I want to build: one with presence, purpose, and alignment.

What should our readers know about your business?
I want readers to know that I live what I teach. Family comes first. Self-care is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. So many of us pour from an empty cup until our bodies give out. My work at Optimal Weight Loss Institute is about changing that narrative.

We specialize in holistic, patient-centered care. Whether it’s helping a woman in menopause understand her hormones, guiding a busy mom through medically assisted weight loss, or supporting a business owner through burnout, we treat the whole person. Our mantra is “where wellness meets aesthetics”—because beauty begins inside.

My consultations are comprehensive. I ask about everything: when you last saw your primary doctor, if you’re up to date with your labs, when your last pap smear or dental visit was. Preventative care is not optional. It’s how we stay ahead of disease, how we preserve our joy, and how we remain present for our families.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re visiting me in South Florida, we’re definitely hitting up spots with water views and good vibes! Shooters Waterfront in Fort Lauderdale is a must—amazing brunch with gorgeous views (just make sure you have a reservation). I also love Rise and Toast at The Urban in Wynwood. It’s a Black-owned daytime brunch and music event that celebrates Caribbean culture with live soca, reggae, and dancehall. Perfect for dancing, good food, and great company.

For a soulful dinner, I’d recommend Red Rooster Overtown, a beautiful Black-owned restaurant with rich cultural roots. And to recharge, we’d unwind at Pause Studio in Fort Lauderdale—a modern wellness lounge focused on nervous system regulation. It’s my go-to for restoration.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shout out my two children, Elijah and Ava. They are the reason for every risk, pivot, and prayer. Elijah’s journey continues to inspire my work in mental health, and Ava’s presence reminds me daily why I strive for freedom and legacy.

My mother deserves a special shoutout this year. After surviving an accident that nearly took her life, she’s now on a beautiful healing journey—and she’s the reason I’m incorporating more regenerative medicine into my practice. Her strength gives me life.

And then there’s Eunice, my executive assistant in the Philippines. She’s not just support—she’s family. She has been with me from the very beginning, through every brand change and challenge. She runs the show behind the scenes, and everyone knows her by name. I can’t wait to one day work side-by-side with her in person as I travel.
