We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Sobers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of The Boss Chick Dance Workout® is the incredible, powerful network of women that make up our program. We have more than 300 certified BCDW® instructors and thousands of women across the globe that have been positively impacted by joining our #globaltwerktribe! When I first started the BCDW® program in Miami in 2013, my goal was to create a safe, welcoming, inclusive space where women would feel empowered to focus on their fitness, mental health, and overall well being. I never could have imagined that Boss Chick would eventually become a major platform for women to elevate their voices, connect with other like minded individuals, and celebrate their culture in a way that allows them to let loose, build confidence, and take a much-needed pause from their daily stressors.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Boss Chick Dance Workout® is a global twerk fitness program that combines Hip-Hop, Dancehall, and Afro-Caribbean dance choreography with HIIT, cardio, and core strength-training to inspire body positivity and build strength and confidence in women. The program celebrates black artists, music, dance, and culture. BCDW® is a safe space where like-minded women from all walks of life, including transgender women and those who identify as women, can come together and focus on their mental and physical health and wellness. We realize these things are all too frequently stigmatized within our community and are always looking for ways to invent creative programming and offer real support and dialogue around these important topics. Starting and growing a business is never easy. When expanding into 35+ global markets, I needed to ensure quality and consistency across my classes. I did this by touring the U.S. regularly and connecting with our BCDW® groups/teaching master classes and continuing education classes to my instructors. With this, we developed a Master Instructor program so those with more experience could help guide our newer instructors. Some of the lessons I’ve learned are – always stay true to your brand and don’t try to be everything to everyone. You’ll make yourself crazy doing that. I know the BCDW® core audience, have made sure to stay in tune with what they need, and design every workout and program so that it’s catered and tailored to them. What I’m most proud of is creating this incredible network where women can come together in a safe space to share their achievements and struggles in health/fitness and life in general. It’s like having a community of hundreds of sisters or best friends who all support one another. The positive impact this has made on the lives of those involved in our program is what keeps me going and striving to grow BCDW® even further. When participants or instructors come to me and tell me how much Boss Chick has changed their lives, or how they finally have found a workout where they feel like they belong…I really can’t put into words just how much that means to me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A perfect weekend in Miami would consist of the following: Head to South Beach for a day on the sand! While there, make sure to grab some authentic Cuban food at a place like Puerto Sagua or Las Olas Cafe. If you’re in need of a little pampering, the spas at ONE Hotel and The Setai are amazing. – If you can, go out on a boat ride for the day! It’s one of the best ways to see Miami. There’s great snorkeling, jet skiing, and calm water that’s perfect for paddle boarding and kayaking too. At night, head to Midtown and grab dinner at Sugarcane, then swing over to Brickell for a cocktail at Sugar, the rooftop bar at EAST Hotel. They have the most incredible views of downtown and its skyscrapers. Kiki in the River is great if you’re looking to dine with more of a party vibe (especially on Sundays). Lincoln Road in South Beach or Brickell City Center are must-stops for shopping and people watching. You can’t miss an afternoon in Wynwood, checking out all the artist murals and iconic spots like Wood Tavern, the Wynwood Walls, and lots of great little artist galleries. Coyo Taco is one of my favorite places in Wynwood to grab a quick bite.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my first dance teachers – Gaile Holland & Edward Holland. These incredible leaders helped ignite my passion for dance and always taught me with patience, grace, and understanding. They are amazing mentors and a huge part of the reason I became a professional dancer.
