We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Taina Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Taina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a doctor of Chinese medicine, a mother of two, and a woman raised between cultures, my thought process behind starting my own business wasn’t just strategic; it was spiritual. I wanted to create something that honored both my ancestors and my modern-day community. I had witnessed too many people fall through the cracks of conventional medicine, and I knew that healing had to be more personal, more soulful, and more integrative.

My business was born from a deep calling to bridge holistic wisdom with accessible care. It wasn’t just about acupuncture or herbal medicine; it was about helping people come home to themselves in mind, body, and spirit. I wanted to serve families, honor lineage, and create spaces where wellness wasn’t a luxury, but a birthright.

Being a single mom while earning five degrees taught me grit and vision. Launching my practice and later expanding it into educational platforms, product lines, and books allowed me to turn that vision into something tangible. Every offering I’ve created reflects my belief that healing is sacred, community matters, and purpose is non-negotiable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
About My Work and Story

I walk the line between two worlds: the structured science of diagnostics and lab work, and the fluid mystery of intuition, emotion, and soul. As a Doctor of Chinese Medicine and functional medicine practitioner, I offer care that is both evidence-informed and energetically attuned. I believe healing is an art form, and the body is a masterpiece with layers waiting to be heard, not just fixed.

My practice blends ancient modalities with modern protocols such as acupuncture, lab testing, herbal medicine, nutritional science, ancestral wisdom, and somatic healing. I work with the root, not just the branch. My brand, Got Soul (Garden of the Soul), was born from this mission: to make holistic healing accessible, soulful, and deeply personal. It is a space where healing becomes nourishment, where the soul is tended to like sacred soil.

The path here was not linear. I come from a lineage of strong, intuitive women and was raised by parents who nurtured both my mind and my heart. My mother’s resilience, my father’s depth and creativity, and their shared belief in natural healing laid the foundation for this work. My dad is a writer who used to stay up with me when I was sick, offering remedies and love. Becoming a single mother myself while earning multiple degrees added fire to my purpose and taught me discipline wrapped in devotion.

I have learned to honor the seasons of life, the body, and business. I have learned that burnout can be a teacher, silence can be medicine, and your voice is a tool for healing.

What I want people to know is this: healing is possible when all parts of you are invited to the table. I do not offer cookie-cutter solutions. I offer whole-person medicine, rooted in truth, intuition, evidence, and care because the soul deserves a garden to grow in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Best Friend in Town? Here’s How I’d Show Them a Soulful Week in South Florida

If my best friend came to visit, I’d make sure their week was equal parts joy, nourishment, movement, magic, and flavor. We’d blend beach sunrises, bold Haitian coffee, Zumba dance breaks, healing rituals, rooftop views, and soulful conversations under the stars.

The beach is my sanctuary and movement is my medicine, so both would be part of our daily rhythm. South Florida is my soul’s shoreline, and I’d share every golden drop of it.

Here’s what a week in my world might look like:

Day 1: Soulful Welcome
• Morning: Pick them up with fresh coconuts and a playlist full of tropical joy.
• Afternoon: Ocean dip and barefoot grounding walk at Hollywood Beach, then smoothies at The Juicery Bar.
• Evening: Dinner at Redwood Kitchen & Bar in Hollywood for Caribbean fusion and cocktails, followed by a sunset stroll along the Hollywood Broadwalk.

Day 2: Culture, Color, and Cardio
• Morning: Sunrise stretch on the beach, then we head to my Zumba class for high-vibe movement, sweat, and smiles.
• Midday: Brunch at Green Bar Kitchen, then explore Wynwood Walls, street art, and artisan tea at JoJo Tea Room.
• Evening: Dinner at Cilantro Asian Bistro in downtown Fort Lauderdale (and yes—ask for Ed), followed by rooftop cocktails to catch the breeze and the city lights or CJ blacks Plantation (ask for Tarag she is an amazing mixologist)

Day 3: Healing and Ocean Rituals
• Morning: Beach walk and intention-setting, then time to receive at my clinic for a healing session—acupuncture, herbal support, or soulwork.
• Afternoon: Light bites and beachside journaling.
• Evening: Rooftop dinner at Juvia Miami and barefoot stargazing by the ocean.

Day 4: Island Escape and Dolphin Magic
• All-Day: Drive to Islamorada or Marathon Key for a full Keys adventure. We’d visit the Dolphin Research Center, where we could interact with or simply sit near the dolphins—my favorite ocean teachers. Their presence is healing all on its own.
• Afternoon: Paddleboarding, a beach picnic, or lounging by the water. Lunch at The Fish House or Pierre’s, soaking in the salt, sun, and serenity.
• Evening: On the way home, we’d stop at Robert Is Here for tropical smoothies and spontaneous dancing under the palm trees.

Day 5: Artistic Soul Flow
• Morning: Sunrise beach stretch and breathwork.
• Late Morning: Visit Perez Art Museum, stroll Bayfront Park, and reflect near the water.
• Afternoon: Reflective journaling or tarot pull at The Sacred Space Miami, followed by a nourishing raw vegan lunch at Plant Miami.
• Evening: Sound bath, cacao ceremony, or ecstatic dance. Dessert at Bachour, because joy is a nutrient.

Day 6: Local Luxe Meets Ocean Chill
• Brunch: Vibes and elegance at Swan Miami.
• Afternoon: Shopping and rooftop views in Brickell City Centre or an ocean reset at Las Olas Beach.
• Evening: Picnic on the beach with rosé, music, and laughter that drifts into the waves.

Day 7: Sacred Sendoff
• Morning: One last beach sunrise, barefoot with tea or coffee in hand.
• Late Morning: Spa day or Korean scrub at Banya Spa and Lounge to relax and reset.
• Evening: Dinner at Chef Creole, lots of storytelling, and a candlelit closing ceremony—because every soul trip deserves a sacred sendoff by the sea.

My South Florida Vibes Are:

Spicy, soulful, ocean-kissed, rooted in culture, touched by spirit, and always filled with love.

Whether you’re here to heal, play, explore, or remember who you are, you’ll feel it in the waves. And if you’re with me, you’ll leave with more joy, more clarity, and a little sand still between your toes!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people and energies that walk with me, seen and unseen, but if I had to give a shoutout, it would be to the women who came before me and the ones I’m raising.

My Dad who is an amazing Author, Medicine man and mother came to this country six months pregnant with me, carrying not just a child but a legacy. Thier sacrifices, strength, and relentless faith lit a path I continue to walk. I also give deep thanks to my ancestors whose wisdom flows through my work, even when their names were never written in books.

I’d also love to recognize my children, Elijah and Anala, who have grown alongside me as I built this dream. Their love, patience, and brilliance fuel my fire.

To my aunties, thank you for being second mothers and sacred keepers of our family. Your strength, stories, laughter, and love shaped the woman I am today in ways words can’t fully express. Your presence has always felt like home.

A heartfelt shoutout to my teachers at Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine who believed in me as a student and now welcome me as a teacher among them. Eileen Rodriguez LMT (sports medicine) My first Teacher!! we have the same last name and I am so thankful for you. I’m also grateful to every mentor, patient, teacher, and friend who saw me clearly and reminded me of my medicine when I forgot…
Deep gratitude to…..
