We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Bernstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deborah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursed my creative path because i feel that it is healthier mentally and physically if you can express yourself. Whether you are good at something or not, it is always best to find an outlet to let your inner self, your true self out instead of bottling up feelings. One of the reasons why artists and creatives get that stereotype of being emotional beings. Because i am not one to keep my feelings inside, i have always been drawn to creativity and artistry to let those feelings out. I have been this way pretty much my entire life. On the other upside of pursing a career in the arts and design, i get to make others happy with my talents and skills. I get to bring love and joy to those who may not have the abilities or skills to bring their ideas and dreams to reality. Making others happy makes me happy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to my art, I love things that flow together. There’s a fine line between not good and fashionable offset, I strive to live there. Every time I do a photo shoot or design a garment, I think of the concept I am aiming for. Depending on the end game, I try to see every aspect of the project to make sure it flows together for the final results. Details matter a lot in photography or even fashion design. Where I am currently in my career was not easy, not by a long shot, but I always remembered that great things don’t come easy. It takes time, effort, trails, errors, and passion to get where you want to be in your field. When I would hit a roadblock, I would definitely break down, maybe cry, but then I talk to my supportive friends and I get back up and continue. If it is something I am passionate about, there is no stopping me. I am grateful to have such loving and supportive friends and family with me, but I also don’t go to them with every roadblock and error I come across. Sometimes I handle them on my own. My brand is a great representation of me. I am fun, living life, spiritual being who also enjoys the finer things, high end, conservative classy fashion, who sees the beauty in everything.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a foodie, adventurous, art loving person, I would have their entire itinerary planned out. Wynwood would be my first place to go for day and night time activities and food. Then I would take them to Miami Beach for the salt life, food, and site seeing. Next up, would be the Florida keys for the seafood and the island life. After that, I would either take them to the Miami Design District or to Fort Lauderdale. Then it would just be a repeat of those locations, because honestly to site see some of those places, one day is not enough. I am going to stop there, because if I gave a more detailed itinerary, this response would be extremely long.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shout out to my parents for always believing in me and being supportive. Knowing that no matter what, i am to stubborn not to strive to reach my dreams regardless of what happens or roadblocks i reach. My parents are always there giving love and care to me when i need it. No matter how long it takes me to reach my dreams, they know i will reach them.
