We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Siversen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I tend to be a workaholic and when starting a new business, it requires so much work and research. Typically there is not enough time in the day to do everything I need to get done. Which leads me to working 12-16 hours days to get things going. Now having a family and two daughters 10,and 12 years old, I always want to spend as much time with them as possible. So my schedule with them for school, and after school activities like gymnastics and volleyball take priority. Luckily my wife is a big help in taking care a lot of the home responsibilities, which allow me to focus on the businesses I run. My wife, is the best teammate I have and helps me manage all the things we have going on in our daily lives. I like to schedule the blocks of time I need for the family, and try to use later night-time hours to do extra work. I like working late for several reasons. Having less distractions allows me to get caught up or ahead on tasks, and I like being able to have that quite time to myself to focus. When I started my first business I was 22 years old and worked like crazy and barely slept. But I was a lot younger and less responsibilities then. Now I know that while work is extremely important to me, I have to make time for what I love the most and that is my family. Taking vacations and traveling is very important for us, and we always make time for a nice week long trip to relax and enjoy family time with each other while making memories. So now getting older I try to enjoy more of the family life, so I still work just as hard but I make sure to make time for both.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company Viral Blockers manufactures and sells Plexiglass sneeze guards online. We have serviced the top universities, schools, and government agencies across the country. We believe our quality standards and customer service is what separates us from the competition. We always go out of our way to make sure our customers get exactly what they want and feel great about their experience with us and the products. Over the years I realize it was the teams I worked with that helped me get my businesses to the levels they have achieved. It’s never easy and there are tons of scary lows, but it is outweighed by the amazing highs. You have to have a clear vision and appetite for risk, but most importantly is believing in your team and yourself to make it happen. One great lesson I’ve learned is treating every customer like they are your biggest customer and they will walk away feeling great about your company and they usually become your biggest promoters. Every sale counts and you never know who you are dealing with and what impact they can have on you. Opportunities arise out of the connections you make, so make them all count. Our business now is focused on helping schools, businesses and people across the country get back to work and everyday life safely and quick. We are proud to have people trust in us to provide them with their protective equipment, and we make sure we deliver to them a quality product and service. We will continue to innovate in the PPE field and we have some upcoming projects to announce soon that we believe will be the next step in helping people fight the virus, and to allow their schools, and companies to operate safely.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in South Florida is a great place to take a visitor. Usually the first thing anyone coming to Florida wants to see if the beaches and the ocean. Being that our weather is pretty consistently hot and sunny (except for hurricane season). I personally don’t go to the beaches that much as I should being that I live so close. However for visitors going down by the beach there are great spots for breakfast, lunch and dinner so depending on the amount of days they have I like to split it up a little for them. Leading with the beach so they can catch a tan and swim in the ocean is a great start. I personally like to take them fishing and show them how amazing the water is as you go a bit further offshore and there is always tons of great fish to catch down here. Fort Lauderdale has some great restaurants and some of my favorites are Capital Grill, Cafe Martorano’s, and Houston’s which is a great spot to eat on the water. For a little nightlife there is the Hard Rock hotel which has a bunch of great restaurants, concerts, comedy shows, and gambling. So there is a lot of variety and things to do and see. If you head a little south to Miami there are tons of great spots along the beach for food and drinks and some of the best lounges and clubs around. There are some great places like Morikami gardens, great parks, museums and all kinds of sporting events and fairs. Right now during The pandemic it obviously would be a different set of plans but we will get back to normal eventually.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Rebekah deserves a lot of credit. Without her I would not have the time to do everything I do on a daily basis. She works full time, and really manages the household and she runs a tight ship. So she deserves a shoutout for being an awesome mother and wife. I don’t give her enough credit.
