We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliana Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juliana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

I grew up with entrepreneurs, all around me. My parents both ran successful businesses, as did my grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Entrepreneurship was part of our family culture. Running my own business was never a question of if, but when? Taking that initial leap of faith wasn’t as scary as it is for most, because I knew what lay on the other side of it (countless hours, sleepless nights, emotional highs and lows), and I craved it. I tried launching a few different businesses right after college. Though they didn’t materialize into significant revenue-producing opportunities, they taught me priceless lessons; including when to let go and move on (something I didn’t learn in business school). When I launched my first successful business, I had three small kids under the age of 4; my plate was more than full! But, I was itching to do something that leveraged my education and passion for business. I came across an opportunity to build a new retail concept in my market and leapt headfirst into it. Five years after launching and developing a recognizable brand, I sold the company in a multiple bid scenario. Shortly after the sale, I was ready for my next adventure! In 2014 I took over a marketing, communications, and business development consulting company, rebranded it, and got to work doing what I love most, building and growing businesses. In 6 years since I’ve been running BryteBox, we’ve expanded to a handful of verticals and increased our client roster significantly. I joke around a lot that starting and growing businesses is my love language, therefore it’s no surprise that my company: BryteBox Consulting does just that!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BryteBox is a full-service marketing, communications and business development consulting firm, located in South Florida.  Our team consists of senior-level entrepreneurs, project managers, marketers and communicators that collectively develop and implement creative, results-driven solutions in public relations, social media marketing, content marketing, web management and more.

Though we work with businesses of all shapes, sizes and industries; playing as big or as little of a role as needed within their organizations, our most prominent role with our clients is that of an entire marketing department. What sets us apart is that we can easily play that role. BryteBox is a one-stop-shop for businesses wanting to focus on what they’re good at (their core service or product offering), while letting us do what we’re good at; getting your name and brand out there.  Thanks to our clients (whom we consider partners) and the trust placed in our work product and work ethic, we’ve been able grow amid a worldwide pandemic.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

My favorite spots in the city (pre-pandemic) are mostly in Wynwood. I absolutely love it there. It’s one of the few areas in South Florida where you can spend an entire day walking around exploring shops, galleries, restaurants, and graffiti art! The Wynwood Walls are a must-see. They’re constantly changing street murals from artists from all around the globe, and they’re free to visit and stroll at your leisure. R-House’s Drag Brunch has to be the best ‘brunch experience’ I’ve had in a long time! Grab a group of friends and get ready to be blown away by the performers. If you’re into healthy, clean-eating, Dr. Smood in Wynwood is a great watering hole with all kinds of yummy smoothies, coffees, teas, and bites. My favorite is the Golden Mylk Latte with cashew mylk (it’s spicy, but so good!). The best part of Wynwood is discovering new places found on each block.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

So many shoutouts to give!! First and foremost I’d like to acknowledge my mom, whom we lost in July of this year after a 2.5 year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Her steadfast, unapologetic work ethic and strong-willed determination molded me into the person I am today. She was a force of a woman, one I’ll always aspire to be.

Professionally, BryteBox is where it is today due to the amazing dynamic and dedication of our team. My daughters; Gabi, Sofi, and Dani also deserve a massive shoutout. They’re so patient and understanding of my time limitations when it comes to work. Finding a work-life balance when running a business, a household and so many other things is a challenge in and of itself. Having my daughters’ understanding is worth its weight in gold. And of course, to the many friends and relationships that have fed my soul during some of the hardest years ever. We’re only as great as the people around us, my circle is proof of that!
