We had the good fortune of connecting with Gerald Raphael and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gerald, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Being authentic. People will respect you when they see the real you and you don’t come off as a person who is showing them a made up persona that does not reflect who exactly you are. When you are honest with yourself you have nothing to hide from anyone and they see the real you. They can relate to you, they can feel comfortable talking to you and in some cases grow a connection with you. I feel that in this south florida otaku, gamer, cosplay community people want authenticity. There’s too many fake people who are good at putting up a act and when times get rough, they are nowhere to be found and that is usually when the community needs someone who will raise the morale and let others know that there will be good times ahead.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I’d like to keep my work life private and away from the things I do outside of my job. All I can say is that I work a logistical job and it pays well and the benefits are nice but mentally I am tired of the place so that is as far I will go with that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m very adventuristic so I would take my best friend to an arcade, prefably Flynn’s Arcade. If we want to go out for drinks there’s Tenth Level Tavern. There’s Xtreme Action Park where there is indoor go kart racing, bowling alley, skating ring, laser tag, arcade games, rock climbing, and VR. For something a little crazy but exciting, I would go to iFly where its a indoor sky diving. The shooting range, movie theater, and the list can go even longer. As for places to eat, anywhere that serves wings and friens or steak and burgers, we are going there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my co-host of the South Florida Gamers Podcast, AJ aka Walooiji (Waluigi but spelled differently) for being with from the very beginning of the podcast and up until now. I would like to thank Eddie and Will from Flynn’s Arcade in Margate for being there for me as well. They have helped me with having the podcast at their place of business, I broadcast their tournaaments and do a lot of volunteer work at the arcade. I’d also would like to thank Evelyn Cao for referring me to your organization. I wasn’t expecting an opportunity like this but I am grateful to her and to you guys for allowing me to share my thoughts.
