We had the good fortune of connecting with Aja Sejour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aja, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think of taking risks, I think of fear. Risk is having the courage to face what you are afraid of. In my case, failure has always been of my biggest figures. I know that answer may sound so cliche, but it’s the truth. I take risks carelessly with my goals and businesses because you never know what the outcome may be until you try. Mistakes are meant to be made, so I go in with that mindset in case things may not always work in my favor. But ultimately, I’ve learned more than I lost and I’m okay with that as long I know my purpose.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a makeup artist, you have the full creative control. Makeup is expression, it’s beauty, it’s fun! I take pride in my work and treat all customers like royalty. I often find myself in awe watching the growth first hand. While I keep up with the latest trends, I still like to keep my exclusivity and create a lane for myself. The most important lesson I’ve learned as a makeup artist , is that you can’t service everyone! There’s enough business to go around for everyone. So I focus on myself and never allow the what if’s to cloud my mind.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting South Florida, I would take her jet skiing and spend the day at the sand bar. I think she would also enjoy a thrilling airboat ride in the Everglades. One of my favorite restaurants is Billy’s Stone Crabs, so it’s only right to get dressed up super cute and feast the night away on their beautiful waterfront deck. Nightlife is pretty popular in the MIA, so drinks and great music wouldn’t be hard to find!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Myself, for never allowing anything or anyone to detour me from what I believe in and having the courage to stand against all the doubt with my head held high and prove that hard work always prevails. Lastly, my family. Specifically my husband and kids, they support me, have taken time to show interest in learning the business and stepping in to assist me when it matters the most.
