We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris-Karz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kris-Karz, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Well, a quote that I live by is, “Hard work and discipline is the key to success.” That was the motto for my primary school. The simplicity of this statement has resonated with me ever since then. I know that if I work hard and consistently then I will inevitably be successful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started off as a music producer doing beat battles in Miami and across the country. I have recently decided to take a shot at being an artist and record my first project. One of the main thing that sets me apart is the fact that I don’t take myself too seriously. Meaning, my motivation to make music does not come from a place of competition so I don’t need to compete with anyone. I’m just here to have fun and once it stop being fun, I will stop making music. I feel no pressure making music. That’s my songs are always light and fun and I believe that separates me from my peers. My journey has been a blast so far. It also does help that I’m Jamaican.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is no shortage of things to do in Miami so it all depends on the person. If they’re just trying to chill and relax I’d probably take them on a tour at Fairchild Gardens which is a botanical garden here in south Miami. Not a lot of people know about that spot but is one of my favorite places. Then we would go to the beach for sure. If they’re looking to turn up then I’d probably take them to one of the many clubs in the Wynwood or Brickell area. I like the back room at Coyo Taco because they’re always playing reggae and dancehall their and food isn’t bad. Everything has slowed down a bit due the pandemic but they’re are still places you can go to safely have a good time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my father. He has been the most consistent figure in my career. I would have given up a long time ago if it weren’t for his support. I wouldn’t even be doing music if it weren’t for him.
