We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Holness and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I recognized that in order to sustain any level of success, a system had to be built around the value that could be provided to ourselves and others. Building a business became the pathway to create a sustainable machine that could provide opportunities for my team and I to do what we loved to do, and get paid to help others. We decided to build multiple businesses simultaneously to build a foundation for each entity to support the other, creating a self sustained in-house revenue model for Video Production, Marketing, and Music Entertainment. The life principles learned while building these business helped me realize the true core values I stood for and could integrate into the business model to serve others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a producer, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many talented artists and help bring their visions to life through music. I’ve been making beats and working as a producer/engineer for over 10years. Utilizing the mixing and mastering techniques I’ve gained over the years has helped me improve the quality of any production I get my hands on. I’ve been lucky enough to have great mentors around me as a musician, producer, and now as an entrepreneur. The challenges of trying to teach yourself varies disciplines across different industries can be a daunting task and physically draining at times. I’ve found that being able to manage my inner emotions and energy through meditation and self-awareness has greatly improved my ability to perform at my highest level. I’ve often heard people use the phrase “jack of all trades, and maser of none” and it used to discourage me as a child. People made it sound like it was going to be impossible to be great at multiple things unless you only focused on one at a time. But now as an adult, I’ve learned that if you can learn to master yourself and understand your personal processes of how you learn new information, you can learn anything and do anything you set out to accomplish.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think some of the best places to check out in Florida are the downtown scenes! I spend a lot of time traveling and love exploring downtown Miami, Tampa, and Orlando. It’s exciting to see all the entrepreneurship around these areas and how quickly the landscape evolves.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My college professor Pat Hernly helped me realize the potential I had as a music producer and opened my eyes to a world of professional live music/entertainment that I was not yet aware of. Being exposed to the live entertainment industry allowed me to see the secrets of the music industry through live performances and nation wide tours. The most influential person I encountered on this journey was Laurie Giron, who worked as a coordinator for the audio production company I was involved with at the time. She provided me with many opportunities to work big gigs and shows with some of the biggest names in the world. The level of appreciation I have for her and everyone I’ve met along this industry is hard to put into words. It has definitely been a life changing experience, especially now implementing those lessons as an entrepreneur.
