We had the good fortune of connecting with Adriana Cabanas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adriana, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk, is actually just a mind trick, and a sneaky illusion we create… and you have to be very very careful with that guy that goes by the name of risk, because he will sneak up on you and trump your decision making. If you think about it, when we’re so worried about a “risk” the only reason why you’re all worked up and scared about it is because you’re in that -worst case scenario-. mindset. In actuality, that -worst case scenario- that you’re concentrating on has not even happened, it’s just your mind painting this horrible picture that isn’t real. What you have to actually be looking at, with tunnel vision, is what there is to GAIN. There is nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing in this world that you gain, that didn’t have some sort of risk to it. So it comes down to this: We all have two options in ANY scenario we have the option of 1. concentrating on what there is to lose, or 2. what there is to gain. Take driving for example. There is a huge detrimental risk in getting in a car and driving. Most of us probably know someone that has passed away from driving, right? I personally, know 3. But, for some reason we are ALL gung-ho to learn to drive, to get a car, and we literally get in our cars every single day. Our entire existence is put in the hands of complete strangers driving all around us. And we all know the dire risk there is, but we still get in our cars day in and day out. How come the risk doesn’t stop us? I will tell you why, because we are all focused on purely one thing… what we’re GAINING from being able to drive, not what we’re losing. In my business,I used to be hesitant to invest in anything too expensive, because… risk. I would think “well what if this goes wrong, what if that goes wrong… I will lose my money”. But once I changed my focus on what there is to actually gain, it completely shifted everything I did. I know, with every inch of my body, if something goes the other way…. I will figure it out no matter what. It became very clear to me that I was risking more by trying to eradicate risk, than the actual risk itself. This critical decision making skill, where we contemplate the risk- the absolute worst thing that could happen in a scenario, is based from our primitive days when the decisions we had to make were literally life or death… “Should I leave my cave and risk death from a wild animal attack” “Should I cross this river to catch my fish and potentially be taken by current” That decision making process doesn’t align in the modern world because, for the most part, we are in a safe environment and our decisions don’t have to based off of fearing the worst so that we could stay alive. Next time you’re in a situation where you’re debating risk/reward… ask yourself…. am I concentrating on the worst case scenario or am I concentrating on the best case scenario? Which is my preference out of the two? Let THAT decision making process be your driver. As they say- the biggest risk is to take no risk at all.

What should our readers know about your business?
Zatorie.com is a luxury acrylic gold foil wedding invitation site which makes high end acrylic invitations accessible to a wider audience, other than those with a huge budget and a high end wedding planner. It’s a way to wow your audience with a couple of clicks. We offer free samples, so every customer gets a sneak peak of what they will get. Every customer is completely floored by the impression the acrylic invitation makes. I’m most proud of the quality, because it’s not easy to produce this type of quality. And it took a long long time to finally perfect it. But I accept nothing less than excellence. It was a lot of trial and error, a lot of self motivation, and a whole lot of obstacles to overcome. Being hit by the pandemic, in the worst sector of all -large gatherings- only strengthened the vision to dominate the market because even with a pandemic, customers were STILL crawling to get their invitations. I’m proud to have a product that people are willing to jump through hoops for.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visit in Miami, I would take them to see the sunset from fisher island, or at Smith & Wollensky, watching the cruises take off. Then I would take them to sugar to get a little feel for Brickell area and a beautiful view. Next day we’d stroll around design district, then lunch at Soho on the sand, and dinner at Novikov. Breakfast at Morgan’s or Bistro. Then we would spend the rest of the day on the water on a boat, jet-skiing and wake boarding, watching the sunset from the water. We would wake up early one of those days to catch the sunrise while running on the Rickenbacker causeway. For the rest of the week we’d work away with a beautiful view from somewhere like soho, or four seasons surfside to get our creative juices flowing. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
