Meet Jordan Tariff: Singer Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Tariff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music has always been this incredible outlet for me. Whether i’m feeling happy, sad, angry or annoyed I work through it at the piano. Even before I was able to play any instruments, I was always singing in the shower or singing for my friends and family. I wasn’t always singing other peoples songs though, I was making up my own. Then I discovered Coldplay and was blown away by the storytelling in their song writing as well as their ability to move me. I instantly knew I wanted to tell stories through music. I’m constantly writing/creating music because it’s the thing that allows me to truly appreciate the good and bad things in life while also expressing myself. Even when I’m writing for other artists, it’s an opportunity to help them tell their stories. We all live such unique lives but it’s amazing how certain experiences can resonate with everyone. Music is a universal language and I love being able to share my take with everyone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m really just excited about the fact that I have so much music coming out this year. I released my first single of the year called Time Moves Slow on January 1st and that’s really just the beginning. I’ve spent the past 4 years working on this music and it’s deeply personal to me. I went through a lot of heartbreak and hardships which was able to fuel the creation of this music and i’m insanely proud of it. I had 40 songs taken away from me that I wrote myself forcing me to pivot and continue to move forward. it was hard but I’m definitely thankful that it happened because I’m happy with who it made me. I just kept reminding myself that sometimes, these sort of things are inevitable and you can’t let it define you. I used what I was going through as an opportunity to write more music and continue to tell my story. The best lesson I’ve learned is to just trust the process, keep my head down and keep moving forward. I’ve found that when I believe in myself and put in the work, then anything is possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting me in LA (pre covid) I think the first thing I would do is take them to my favorite sushi spots (Sugarfish and Sweetfin Poke). Both places are so good so I’m taking my friend there the second they get off the plane. Also Mendocino farms. So good. After that I would probably take them for a drive along the PCH and set up a nice beach day. It’s LA so of course we have to go on a hike. If they were up for some shopping I would take them to all the tourist-y spots like The Grove, Rodeo Drive, and The Americana. I’m not a big party or bar guy so, definitely skipping that stuff. Then besides that it would really depend! I love being outside and going for walks so anything in that world sounds nice. I would just want to get some quality chill time in with my friend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to give a shoutout to my parents and brother. Had it not been for my parents and brothers support, I wouldn’t have been able to pursue music in the way that I am now. The journey would’ve been much different and honestly way harder. They’ve been there through all the highs and lows and I love them all so much. I genuinely can’t thank them enough. My brother is actually the one who originally convinced me to pursue music! I also want to thank my manager. I always tell people that he has essentially been my “fairy god mother” out in LA and it really is true. His patience and his belief in me are unparalleled as well as his willingness to help. And of course my friends! My friends are the people who have inspired my music, shown me love and lived the life that I’m writing about with me. I can always count on them to provide unbiased feedback as well as help me up when I’m down. I know it’s kind of cliche but it really is true. It takes a village and I couldn’t do any of the things I’m doing/want to do without any of these people.
