We had the good fortune of connecting with Ofelia Zambrano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ofelia, what do you want people to remember about you?
My name is Ofelia Zambrano, I am from Nicaragua, Living in Nicaragua was a challenge, not only because is a third world country but also because I lived there during the first decade of the Sandinistas Regime. When you live under such circumstances, where the government controls what you see on T.V, and try to even control how to think, It becomes easy to believe that’s the life one deserve or the life God gave you, How ever, I was never comfortable with the idea that my life was going to be dominated by a government. I always thought there was something else that I was destined to explore. I was so lucky to get a job at a travel agency, where I worked 10 years and gave me the opportunity to travel around the world. I believe that experience was preparing me for the life I have now because it exposed me to different cultures, languages and that opened my mind to the world. I moved to United States in 2003 with my husband and my only daughter Valeria Melissa. We lived in the beautiful city of Miramar in Broward county, for 16 years and recently moved to the magnificent city of Davie. I started working in the same field of travel agencies but I felt I was living the same life back in Nicaragua but worst because I was far away from my mother and my brother who I love very much. So the universe conspire with my dreams and I got a job as a Sales Executive at iHeart Media. That wasn’t my dream job but it helped me learn the American work system and also realize there was no limit for me to achieve my ultimate goals. After working there for eight years, I realized that job was preventing me from obtaining two things: freedom and income. I wanted to control my time and make money at the same time. So, again the universe conspired with my dreams and I resigned from that job and started my own company, Presto Marketing, an advertising agency based in Florida. One year after, I decided to diversify my source of incomes and studied to obtain my real estate license in the State of Florida. I was a little skeptical and I have to admit, a little shy because the industry was totally new to me. However, if you don’t jump into the river, you don’t learn how to swim and soon I realized my ability to explain things and my people skills showed me I was adding a lot of value to my clients. That gave me the confidence to explore the industry deeper. Persistence, hard work and the support of friends and people in the industry, played a huge roll to my success. What I would like my legacy to be is an example of perseverance, a living proof that you can achieve anything in life as long as you work for it. I want to be remembered as a person that never accepted a reality that didn’t seem fair. I decided to fight to live my own reality and it is possible when you have clear dreams and goals. My legacy is that excuses will only take you to a place where I am sure you don’t want to be, even worst, you will feel sad and depress. My legacy is to prove that it doesn’t matter where you come from, you can always make your dreams come true as long as you fix your gaze on the goals not on the obstacles.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Before moving to the United States from Nicaragua, I worked at a travel agency for ten years. Working at the agency provided me with the opportunity to travel around the world, and I loved it! Such experience prepared me for where I am now because it exposed me to different cultures and languages, and it opened my mind to the world.
I moved to the United States in 2003 with my husband, Raul, and my only daughter, Valeria Melissa. I started working in the same travel agency industry, but I felt I lived the same life as I did in Nicaragua, and I wanted a different type of energy. So, the universe conspired with my dreams, and I got a job as a Sales Executive at iHeart Media. Although it wasn’t my dream job, it helped me learn the American work system, and it also made me appreciate that there was no limit for me to achieve my ultimate goals—whichever I set them to be.
After working at iHeart Media for eight years, I realized the job prevented me from obtaining two things: freedom and income. I wanted to have control of my time and earn a decent salary at the same time. Again, the universe conspired with my dreams. I resigned from my position and founded Presto Marketing, an advertising agency based in South Florida. One year later, I decided to diversify my income source and studied to obtain my real estate license. At first, I was a little skeptical, and I have to admit, a little shy because the industry was new to me. However, I’m a firm believer that if you don’t jump into the river, you don’t learn how to swim, and soon, I realized my ability to explain things, and my people skills showed me I was adding a lot of value to my clients. I could say it was self-discovery. Such discovery gave me the confidence to explore the industry deeper. Persistence, hard work, and the support of friends and other people in the industry played a significant role in my success.
Now, let’s talk about Real Estate. There are approximately 200,000 realtors in Florida, which is intimidating for anyone starting in this competitive industry. In the beginning, I was doubtful and didn’t want to put all my eggs in one basket, fearing I wouldn’t be able to cut through the clutter. My closest friends deposited their trust in me and hired me as their realtor, putting even more pressure on my already self-created anxiety.
I learned that communication was the key element that helped me succeed. Fluid communication and constant interaction with all the parties involved in a transaction set me apart from the competition. I offer my clients transparency, professionalism, hard negotiating, and excellent communication skills. In return, my clients become happy and satisfied.
What do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be an example of perseverance—a living proof that one can achieve anything in life as long as one works for it. I want people to remember me as a person who never accepts a reality that doesn’t seem fair. I decided to fight to live my truth. Living one’s truth is possible when one has transparent dreams and goals. I believe that excuses only take one to a place one doesn’t want to be.
My goal is to prove that you can always make your dreams a reality. Regardless of where you’re from, if you fix your gaze on the purposes and not on the obstacles, you are successful.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are blessed to live in a city where every corner has its charm. When I moved to the United States with my husband and our daughter, we lived in the beautiful city of Miramar and stayed there for 16 years. Recently, we moved to David—a magnificent city. But I would take my friends to Hollywood Beach and Las Olas in a blink of an eye! We could enjoy the food, the people, the music, and the sea! For dinner? Oh, there’s a melting pot of food from all over the world. My passion is sushi and Peruvian food, so we’ll have plenty of options to select.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Some so many people have inspired and supported me. I wouldn’t like to leave anyone out of the list. In the Real Estate industry, I have to give a shoutout to my Real Estate Broker, Lila Gaitán. Lila is a true Real Estate Broker who has taught me integrity, professionalism, and tenacity. I wouldn’t have reached this far in the real estate industry if it wasn’t because of her.
I owe my personal growth to my best friend, Judith Rodrigue. Judith is a Certified Professional Coach for entrepreneurs. She always encourages me to reach higher goals. My role as a health coach started due to many personal health issues. That’s how I met Mercy Acosta, who has a passion for good nutrition and also helps others develop businesses in the field. Opening my marketing agency was supported and inspired, without a doubt, by my clients. This shoutout is to all of them for their support and constant reinforcement about high-quality service, reassurance, and trust that we are on the right path.
