We had the good fortune of connecting with Iris Lemus – Ensenat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Iris, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson I have learned in my career and business is not to be afraid to fail. There really is no such thing as failing when you try. In fact, FAIL means First Attempt In Learning; so I feel like during these last four years I have had a lot of first attempts and learned how to make the ideas a successful one. Another great lesson I learned is to surround yourself with people who challenge you and those that believe in you. With those people around FAILure is NEVER an option.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Rump Shakers came to me when I had to make a decision in my life about putting work over family and the lack of balance I was given at my job. This was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made in my life. I loved what I was doing for my clients, giving back to my community and changing lives everyday. But I knew that it was not worth it when I would come home and feel my heart break because I didn’t make it to family dinners, bdays, late to friends important events and not being able to be happy. After I took my leap even with doubt, I realized how much more control I had when I became my own boss; my shoulders were lighter and my heart was fuller. I was finally able to travel, be with family and friends and not feel guilt about leaving work at work and making my present, just that…a gift. Today, I am a better wife, daughter, sister, friend, dog mom, employee, manager, business owner, coach, instructor, and creator. Rump Shakers was created through the essence of my nature, shaking my rump everywhere I go. Its about making healthier choices, understanding that life happens and being perfect or looking perfect is unrealistic. Its about making habits into a lifestyle and allowing you to put yourself first, without guilt.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, unfortunately due to COVID-19 I have not really been out and about as much as I would like to be. But the places and things I support have been put on hold for a long time. If there was no pandemic and the city of Miami was full of life and color I would immediately take my friends to the following. A show at the Adrienne Arscht Center, and then a night out in Wynwood, to hit up 1-800 Lucky for late night muchies and a fun tijme with dancing and drinks. One evening we would eat at EMBER or KYU. End the night with some 80s music and jams at Cafe La Trova and end with some salsa at Ball & Chain. Another evening go to North Miami Beach and hang out at the Dog beach or head up more north to Hollywood Beach and on the way home stop by Steve’s Pizza and pick up some craft Ice Cream from Sweet Melody. I would take them down to Key Biscayne Light house and grab some sea food drinks and hang out with some live music at Monty’s Head down to the keys for a night or two and do the Fury along with a stop to grab some Key Lime Pie and a stop on the way back at Golden Rule for a cold beer and Stone crabs. Hit up some cuban breakfast because no trip to Miami can be complete without Isla Canarias croquetas and cafe con leche. A nice drag brunch at R House to end a phenomonal week with friends in Miami.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people who deserve the SHOUT OUT are my clients/friends and family; they all strive to make me stronger, better and challenge me to find new ways to motivate them to achieve their goals, and to make habits into lifestyles. I do read a lot and I find several books that have had paragraphs and elements that have inspired me to be more, but the book that has really helped change my perspective and HOW to motivate others has been UNTAMED by Glennon Doyle. And lastly but most certainly NOT least, the loudest SHOUT OUT is given to my husband. Jorge has literally been one of my biggest cheerleaders I have ever had, He attended my first events and collected tickets, even dropping off music, clothes, (my fav) dancing when its over 100 degrees at an outside event and even converting his “man cave” into a club style setting for my fitness classes during quarantine. I have been blessed and loved by his unconditional support and his creative ways in making me look organized on ZOOM and tech savvy.
