We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabel Brinck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabel, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes me happy? For me there is nothing more important in life than freedom, freedom in every sense, freedom of action. That freedom is what allows me to express my inner cosmic world, my spirit. When I’m in front a white canvas, I let myself be carried away by my creative instinct where every stroke marks the path to the next one until the artwork comes alive full of light, strength and sensitivity. Creating art for me has been spontaneous encounters where I can call my “inner child”. When I feel free, I’m happy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Upon dedicating myself to a life of art, the practice that most called to me was painting. The challenge of communicating with a painting fulfills me personally; painting ignites my inner-passion. I began my career in Graphic Design, having majored in it at the University of Chile. I also did painting on the side at the time, but not in the full-time way I do now. The development of the digital world, where things became more automated, rather than the manual way I was familiar with, led me to distance myself from Graphic Design, and in turn, drew me towards painting. My desire to communicate myself in a gestural, organic, natural fashion led me to make painting my professional, full-time occupation-somewhere around the year 2000. My job is my therapy, it’s my lifestyle. This is my calling. I am always trying to show through my work how I believe life should be lived, and the excitement I get from that has never gone away. My art is an attempt to express my inner poetic world in an intuitive way, similar to those most unconscious thoughts in our brains, one on top of the other, intertwined thoughts. With my art, I seek to be authentic and honest. I’m not too interested in academic tradition or rational thought. I am also looking to have fun. My work has to do with psychic automatism to achieve my inner model. I think I have a long way to go and I hope to die painting and never lose what I think I am: an artist ,with my feet on the ground and my head in the clouds
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always recommend South Pointe Park in Miami. The park itself is gorgeous, which has much to do with its prime location on the water. Rare to find in Miami ! Besides the spectacular beach is the walking promenade that runs along the channel which is the major thoroughfare for watercraft entering and leaving the Port of Miami and marinas. The Cutwalk is a great place to go for a stroll and take in some of the most striking scenery the city has to offer. Smith and Wollensky Steakhouse, is fine dining place with a stupendous view, located in the park ,This is a great place to unwind (of course, comes with a price) sip a drink and enjoy the scenery and action on the channel.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We all have our little angel who helps us on the difficult path of life, and even more so when we have being trying hard to live by creating / selling art and fully committed to it. My friend Nestor Arenas, a professional artist as well, has helped me unconditionally and dedicatedly on this process. I want to thank him for his valuable and permanent advice. He has taught me that even a mistake made while painting may lead to the creation of your next masterpiece… and that only one thing is necessary – it should be fun!.
