We had the good fortune of connecting with Toyonda Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Toyonda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My business has put me in a position where I had to take a risk. Taking a risk can be very scary, so my experience has taught me to have faith and just do it no matter what the outcome can be. It’s two things that can happen you gone succeed or you will fail but it’s up to you on what you want that outcome to be. What effort did you put into it? Did you give it all you had?

I actually started my business in 2018. I’m the owner of KD Design -co & Kd Beauty Bar. Im an license esthetician, sale clothing, candles , and also have a beauty line. In 2018 I started my business but I also kept my 9-5 as a phlebotomist. When 2020 came and COVID 19 hit, a lot of things change. I had to make a decision to either deal with what I was going through with the company I was working for or take a chance and just become a full time entrepreneur. The decision was not easy because I was thinking guaranteed money vs trying to build an clientele to be able to still provide for my family. As people lost their jobs and the pandemic became worst I realize nothing is guaranteed to you. So I decided to walk out on faith and become a full time entrepreneur the process is not easy you take a risk everyday but you taking that risk on you and not a company laying you off all of a sudden when things gone bad. I see it like this I can gamble my time with a company that has profit millions off of me when paying me pennies why can’t I gamble off myself and build my own empire. So here I’m to the a license esthetician building clientele and still offering affordable and quality products. I have not been inside a corporation building since June of 2020 and I have work and earn money to keep me in a good place in my life less stress about other companies and more into what I build for me and my family .

Taking a risk on you can never steer you wrong. The same work ethics you give to a company and obey by their rules ca be the same you but into your own empire. Obedience is the key to every situation. Put God first and having faith you outcome will be something you couldn’t imagine. Not just being and entrepreneur I say and any thing your heart desires.

I wrote a book call My pain is My purpose by Toyonda Simone (Barnes and Nobles & Amazon) I released a lot of hurt and pain that help me realize my purpose. It’s just the beginning for me but I know my ending will be Gods plan.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It took a lot of faith and encouragement to get to where I am today outside of my family I had others that seen good in me to help me accomplish some of the goals I needed. It’s not easy to get good help from people without a ridiculous fee attach than the information you receive you already had it. People only want to tell you the simple google method even after paying them for good information. So I decided to do my own research and work and I came out better so I decide to put my own brain to work certain things didn’t work and certain things was on target. It’s never easy when starting up your own business it’s a lot of work and dedication do the work to see the best outcome for you. I can say I lost a lot of funds on the way but I never gave up. I have done it all just to see what I suppose to be doing I have braided hair which I have done for years, I done taxes which I still do know for the clients I already have I keep my options open when you a entrepreneur it’s nothing wrong with having several streams of income they do say seven streams of income can keep you in a good place.

At this time I’m enjoying what I do. The clothing I provide I try to sale to all shapes and ages. My online store Www.kddesign-co.com was my first project it has it good and bad my biggest mistake was not staying consistent. The first year I did good the second year not so good and 2020 was not good at all. I kept not having the enthusiasm about it when sales would be slow but what I had to learn you can’t stop promoting you have to keep going eventually your sales will pick up giving it your all , this go round I promise my self I don’t care if I didn’t get one sale a week I gone promote and eventually things will happen. Net working is a major taper as well I wasn’t good at that this year I’m attending all meet work that is possible to grow my business.

KD beauty bar is my new project that is just getting started. I’m gone do the same work hard at it promote and network and not let my past mistakes become a mistake for my new project. KD Beauty Bar is the Spa for facial and also sorts of beauty service it’s small now but by goal is to have it big by the end of 2020.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
By living in south Florida my family stay where there is not any close beaches. We would go Fort Lauderdale beach or South Beach. I’m not a club person so we will hit every restaurant, south Florida has so many amazing restaurants it’s too many I like to name but we would explore that town and hit as many as possible. I love to eat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to thank my husband Carlos Johnson for being such a big supporter and allowing me to do what I needed to become the entrepreneur that I am he encouraged me to keep going even when I felt like giving up. My kids Kamitra, Destiny,& Wayne they support and make me want to go harder so they can see any thing is possible. My girls are my inspiration of fashion they love fashion that’s why I decided to go with the name KD Design-co for our online clothing store when I started out now I just have been using it for what ever I do they are the beauty for me so my spa is KD Beauty Bar. Last but not least my mentor Geralda Larkins Visionay strategist who played a big part in starting me off to get to where I am today. She push and motivated me once I got that push and knew I Cana do it I never stop. I have slacked off here and there but I’m on full go to go especially with the 9-5 gone.
