We had the good fortune of connecting with Davida-Mae Chambers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Davida-Mae, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I find that work-life balance is generally most times hard to achieve, for anyone but especially for me, when you like & enjoy all the things you do. So the work becomes something you forget that you actually literally need to take a break from, lol.

But I do think mental AND physical balance is very important;

1/It allows you to reset & refocus

2/ Prevents burnout, which a lot of people don’t even realise they’re going through!

3/ It always you to release negative emotions & circle back under a new mind frame

For me, my balance hasn’t changed over time. I still struggle to have a balance sometimes, but it happens because I need it to happen. My balance includes mostly going on adventures: finding a river or a waterfall, just doing something fun & fulfilling.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally? We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
I love to do a little of everything & I think that’s where I’m most happy – just being able to dabble in all my interests & if that brings an income to the table, then why not! I have to pay each & every opportunity keen attention, because I’m not a fan of failure or disappointment {i.e. self disappointment or disappointments to others]. So when I say I do a little of everything, currently I am a music video producer, public relations/communications manager and a project manager. I’ve produced Block Traffic by Kranium, Budum by Jada Kingdom, Easily by Rytikal, That Mi Like Hear by Govanna, Nice Up Di Dance by Kabaka Pyramid, You just want by Teejay, Assets/Fowl Coop by Yaksta just to name a few. Being a creative & content producer is an absolute joy and I don’t think we get enough credit for the work that we help to bring to life.

I’ve also had the pleasure of managing major brands in corporate Jamaica and being a part of the Indiggo Conference [first creative conference ever in Jamaica) and the RealRAW Campaigns (women’s rights and advocacy campaign) which is where my love for writing/PR, events and project management comes in. So as Vida Communications continues to build, we’re going to continue to tackle these elements and grow!

How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?

Haha, is there anything in life that’s ever easy? Because if you don’t tackle everything head on then it’s not as nice! I got to where I am professionally by being present – I was always volunteering or putting myself out there; making new friends & connections.

This too is what gave me that nudge to start Vida Communications officially last year, because I’ve been doing all these projects here and there over the years but never really publicizing myself or showing my worth and how multifaceted I can be.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

1/ Appreciate each opportunity because it could have gone to someone else + always find a lesson or a silver lining in what you do or what you’re a part of.

2/ Believe in yourself and put in the work. I believe in doing passion projects – that’s what drives me the most and doing “a bit of everything” used to be looked down on but do what you love, and the money will come. If you’re really happy, be happy and don’t be concerned too much about that side of it.

3/ Share your wins & your losses, because that will help with the bounce back.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

My brand, my story and my journey, has been centred around projects/events I’m passionate about and this is what pushes me and drives my work ethic. I love to be engaged in all parts of the process – from start to finish, which I find builds on my development and also my brand.

I’ve been able to juggle doing three completely different roles very well for the last 5 years and I’m so proud of that and my continued growth. Continue to expect great things coming out of Vida Communications – your favourite producer, public relations/communications manager, project manager! I am driven, outspoken and I can’t stop now.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to every single person who has believed in me and has given me great opportunities over the years & have trusted me to execute projects with them or for them. Just to name a few: Jamila & the In.Digg.Nation Team, 300 Shotta/300kJa Productions, DavyFrsh/Fresh Creative, Abigail, Amber/Real Raw Campaign, Market Me Team, my family & partner Nick – they really drive me & the list goes on! Without their support and really everyone I know, I wouldn’t have been able to hone in on my skills & interests.
