We had the good fortune of connecting with Eila Algood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eila, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Live my truth. I have made some difficult decisions in my life in order to be true to me at the cost of relationships and status quo in my family. This is important as a parent because as I have encouraged my children to be true to themselves, I had to do the same. I had to model it in order for them to embrace the concept.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m not a fan of the word “professional” because it does not suit me. I’m a writer, producer, video show host, radio deejay because I enjoy doing those things. I do what I love to do and find ways to share it and inspire others in the process. My income is derived from investments. I want the world to know that I’ve experienced a lot of loss in my life; death, divorce, break ups and those difficult times, especially the experience of stepping into my identity as lesbian, helped me to know my own strength and increase my connection with the divine spirit.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Pololu Valley, Keokea Beach Park, Mahukona Park, a ride over Kohala Mountain Road, a ride between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on Saddle Road, a trip up to the observatory on mauna Kea, a trip to Hilo and then Volcano National Park with a drive back on the Hamakua Coast. Eating would be healthy, organic foods and would not be the focus. Having gone from 221 pounds in 2017 to 150 pounds and holding since 2019, food is a necessity, not a form of entertainment. I’d introduce my friend to people she/he might have somethings in common to.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents and grandparents. I learned from watching them and reflecting on their lives. I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors.
