We had the good fortune of connecting with Rakhi Roy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rakhi, what do you attribute your success to?
Authenticity. Showing up unapologetically as yourself and authentically sharing your story is powerful. I knew I didn’t want be just another wellness professional doling out information online without heart. I share the same struggles as my audience and I think that’s what connects us. I’m someone who has been in their shoes and I get it. People just want to be seen and heard. Don’t change yourself to be liked by others, be yourself and the right people will find you.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m an actress-turned Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RD). My struggles with eczema on and off-camera led me to pivot my passion to help others with chronic skin conditions support their skin holistically. In my line of work, credibility, integrity, and trust is important — anyone can technically call themselves a nutritionist without formal training as it’s not a regulated term and that can be a public safety issue. Credentials are important, but beyond any formal education, it’s important to be human. Unfiltered compassion is something that I see is lacking among some of my health colleagues and I think my honesty sets me apart. People don’t really care if you sound smart, have a master’s degree or a PhD, they want to know if you can help them feel better. There’s a few lessons I’ve learned along the way and they are ‘work smarter not harder’, be consistent, have clarity, and create balance. Invest in experts or mentors to help you accelerate your business and stop working so hard to do everything yourself. We all start as beginners but googling your way through to figure everything out isn’t efficient. Join a mastermind group to stay consistent, this will help you in times when you don’t feel motivated. Find balance in your schedule. Expect that some things will take twice as long to get done in the beginning so don’t overbook your days and find time to do absolutely nothing. Sometimes you need to slow down to speed up. Don’t hustle, align.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a complete foodie and artistic soul so of course GreenG juice bar near Wynwood is a must for the best acai bowls, juices, and chia pudding. Yoga on the turf at the Lowe’s Hotel by the beach is one of my favorite activities, especially during music festival season or Art Basel. Gotta have ramen at 1-800 Lucky, and of course make a quick stop for fresh churros at Coyo Taco — don’t skip on the chocolate dipping sauce! Their tacos are also worth the long lines. I will go back again and again to Beaker & Grey for dinner and their appetizer cheeseburger croquettes are probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten. Evenings in Brickell for shopping or rooftop bars are a great way to see the Miami city lights. Some people like to bar hop, but I prefer to hotel bar hop for all the unique vibes and signature drinks each hotel brings. Some of my favorite hotels for drinks are The 1 Hotel for beachy fresh vibes and The Setai for a sexy ambiance. Dining by the reflection pool at The Setai, with retractable ceiling under the stars will take your breath away.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people that have played both minor and pivotal roles in my life thus far so it is hard to narrow it down to just one. I need to give a shoutout to my business bestie Yaa Boakye. I literally would not have gotten my first client when I was first starting out a few years ago without her. She has a beautiful way of seeing things and articulating them in a way that makes sense and helps you put it into action. It’s a skill and gift not many people possess.
